Reviews
I had a great time on this walking tour! It was awesome getting to visit a number different temples and shrines! My tour guide was very knowledgeable and professional. The tour starts early to limit the crowds and is a lot of walking, so be prepared! Overall, I had a very enjoyable tour and it was around New Years, so it was very exciting!
Jasmine was our guide for this tour and she was great at explaining everything. The tour wasn’t too fast and was at just the right walking speed. The tour was great because of the historically important sites as well as great sight seeing view points and picture taking opportunities. This tour with Jasmine as the guide was great, highly recommended 👍
Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. His explanations of the different histories and cultures was very informative.
This was the most disappointing guided tour we've ever done. The guide Vincent was extremelly rude and dicriminant and had very little knowledge about the locations, admitting that it wasn't his specialty. We rented out Kimonos for the day, so naturally we wanted to take some photos, but we weren't stopping and always paying attention to the tour, to which Vincent started exclaiming that "if we stop to take selfies every 5 minutes, we won't be able to complete everything. But do what you want." This passive aggressive attitude continued throughout the first half of the tour until he finally snapped at me completely. After asking if we had the time to stop for a few minutes to purchase a souvenir, he started shouting at me that he already told me several times that we can do whatever we eant, but he doesn't want me going online, complaining that we didn't finish the tour. The man was constantly talking over me, not letting me get a word in until my husband stepped in. I finally got to explain that we want to prioritise finishing the tour, I simply asked a question and there was no reason to lose his temper, extremelly unprofessional. He apologised and we agreed to move on but the mood of the day was completely ruined. For the rest of the tour he proved to have very little knowledge about the locations, couldn't answer any questions or gave a half hearted answer. My hisband knew more about Kiyomizudera from Wikipedia than the guide... We've done plenty of guided tours worldwide and during our 3 week stay in Japan. This was by far the most expensive and worst one ever! It absolutely ruined what was supposed to be a highlight day of our Kyoto trip and that hurts us the most. P.S. funny thing, later that evening we saw him doing a Gion tour and then we encountered him yet again the next day on the opposite side of the city, giving a tour in Nijo Castle. That shows that he does multiple tours, without speciqlising in anything in particular.
Good to know
Kiyomizudera gets crowded, especially during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. This tour arrive early to enjoy the serene atmosphere.
