What to expect

This is a fun day trip that covers classic attractions such as the Takachiho Railway experience + Takachiho Gorge hike + Amano Iwato Shrine in one day~

  • Takachiho Gorge [Solo travelers will share a boat with other passengers, please understand] Known as one of “Japan’s most beautiful gorges,” it brings together all the romantic elements of waterfalls, gorges, and mountains. 🌊 Get into a hand-rowed boat and paddle deep into the gorge, where you can look up and see the spectacular view of the Manai Falls cascading from above. 🍃 Take a walk along the trail, where every step is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a very comfortable scenic route for strolling and taking photos.
  • Takachiho Sightseeing Railway A slow journey on an old railway, preserving the most original appearance of the Kyushu countryside. The open-air train travels through the mountains, with simple and tranquil scenery along the way.
  • Amano Iwato Shrine Quiet and sacred, it is a key stage in the “Amano Iwato myth.” 🌌 Deep inside the cave are piles of stone towers, said to be traces left by devotees after making wishes, creating a mysterious yet not oppressive atmosphere. 🍂 Along the way, streams gurgle and birds sing, making it a healing journey that calms both body and mind.

Takachiho Gorge has many steps and requires a round-trip hike of about 30 minutes. It is recommended to wear comfortable sports shoes. It is not recommended for people with mobility issues to participate. Thank you.

Note⚠️: The Takachiho boat ride is for families of 2-3 people sharing one boat, so your private time will not be disturbed~ Solo travelers will share a boat with other solo travelers. In case of force majeure and the boat ride is canceled, a refund of 2000 JPY per person will be issued. Due to potential issues with online ticket purchases for the Takachiho boat ride, even if you purchase a package that includes tickets, we will do our best to purchase them for you. If we are unable to purchase them, we will notify you by email at least 4 days in advance. Thank you for your understanding! ⚠️ Travel Notice August 8th – August 16th is Japan’s Obon holiday travel peak season, which may lead to traffic congestion, large crowds, attractions closing early, or itinerary adjustments. Please do not book dinner, flights, or Shinkansen on the same day, and it is recommended to bring a power bank. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Review for: Korean Guide - [Includes Takachiho Boat Ride] Fun Experience One-Day Tour (Excludes Mini Train Fee)

My family and I recently took the Takachiho Gorge one-day bus tour guided by Coco, and it exceeded our expectations! It was incredibly convenient to just sit back and relax without worrying about driving, as Coco expertly guided us through all the essential sights. Seeing the majestic columnar joints and waterfalls of the mysterious emerald-green Takachiho Gorge up close was truly rejuvenating. We also heard that boat tickets are hard to come by, but Coco purchased them in advance for us, allowing us to create precious memories. During the bus ride, Coco's insightful explanations enriched our trip by sharing local myths and legends. The retro-themed Aso-Boy! train experience on the Amaterasu Railway in the afternoon, where we rode through the wind, was absolutely fantastic. The weather was quite hot and sunny, but thanks to Coco's tip to wet a locally purchased towel, we were able to beat the heat. It was very useful! Overall, the efficient itinerary allowed us to experience the grand nature of Kyushu fully, even on a short trip. This is the best Kyushu day tour, and I highly recommend it to families, couples, and solo travelers alike. I hope others are as lucky as we were to have Coco as their guide!

Our tour guide, Lily Zheng, was absolutely wonderful! From the moment she greeted us and took attendance before boarding, to her clear and professional explanations of the attractions' history and features on the bus, she was fantastic. It rained all day, and Lily constantly reminded everyone to be careful of slippery surfaces, showing thoughtful concern for every traveler. Before we got off the bus, she even gave everyone a cute little charm. Lily is truly amazing and highly recommended; I'm so glad she was our guide today! Thumbs up! 👍 I also really enjoyed today's one-day tour, from admiring the beautiful scenery from the Takachiho train, to the mythical power spot of Amanoyasu-kawara where we listened to the rushing river, and finally to Takachiho's most beautiful waterfall spot with boating 🚣 – the scenery was incredible! So worth it.

We had a great time in this tour. Selina is warm and responsive host and the tour destinations are all worth it. To experience seeing takachiho gorge up close and to ride the railway is a must to enjoy your kyushu trip. no issues encountered during the trip too. we had enough stop overs, we are given time to eat and explore on our own too.

Nicole was a fantastic guide who made every effort to ensure our journey went smoothly, from prebooking the train tickets early, to sending clear instructions complete with pictures to walking maths back to the bus. She also had great food reccomendations and explained the mythology of the area well in both english and chinese. The Gorge itself was gorgeous (hehe) and nature lovers would surely love this tour. I even spotted some fire bellied newts in a pond on the way. I had a lovely day!

Participating in this Kyushu day tour, I was deeply impressed by the professional performance of our tour guide, Coco Kinzan. The itinerary covered the Takachiho Railway, Takachiho Gorge, and Amano Iwato Shrine. Coco Kinzan introduced the unique features of each attraction clearly and thoroughly, and supplemented the information with local culture and mythological backgrounds, making the entire trip more informative and engaging. Her management of the schedule, reminders for meeting times, and care for the group members were also very thoughtful. The arrangements were well-organized, ensuring everyone felt safe and comfortable throughout the journey. Overall, this was a smooth and pleasant experience, and I truly felt her professionalism and passion for service. I sincerely recommend Coco Kinzan; she is an excellent and trustworthy tour guide.

We went to all the places listed in the itinerary. We were lucky the weather was really nice today, so the train was open for operation and the river at the gorge was very clear. Our tour guide, Ms. Yang, was very nice and friendly and knowledgeable about mythology and facts about the locality. She gives you decent time to explore the areas on your own if you're that type of person, rather than follow her around all day as long as you meet up at the agreed time. She can also help you with restaurant bookings in Fukuoka, if you're interested in that.

Review for: 【Includes Takachiho Boat Ride】Fun Experience Day Trip (Excludes Mini Train Fee)

Today, I participated in Klook's Takachiho day tour, and the overall experience was very satisfying. The itinerary was well-planned, and the timing was just right – not too rushed, but still covering all the key attractions. Our tour guide, Kevin, was very professional and attentive. Along the way, he proactively shared information about Takachiho's history, mythological background, and best photo spots. His explanations were clear and engaging. He patiently answered all our questions and made sure to accommodate everyone's pace, making the entire trip very comfortable. Takachiho itself is truly beautiful, especially the gorge and shrine areas; it's definitely worth a special visit. Arranging transportation independently can be quite inconvenient, so joining a day tour saved a lot of hassle. Thanks to Kevin's guidance today, this trip left me with wonderful memories. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy way to explore Takachiho. Five-star review!

Review for: [Boat Tour Experience] Takachiho Railway Trolley & Boat Tour Day Trip

It was a very pleasant experience, kudos to our tour guide, Ada, of course who we’re grateful for getting our open-air railway tickets !! We almost thought we wouldn’t be lucky enough to snag some tickets, but thanks to her speed, everyone in the tour was able to ride the train 🥰. Aside from the tickets, the experience itself was very beautiful, the scenery was really breathtaking, our eyes were fed very well. The gorge experience was also very fun! Just didn’t expect a hike (especially if you’ll be riding the boat), but it was all worth it at the end. Again, the scenery was very beautiful, though tiring, our hearts were full going back to fukuoka. I recommend this experience, just dress comfortably and remember to take water with you 💗!!

I highly recommend this tour. Driving three hours one way, plus car rental and tolls, would easily exceed the tour fee. Additionally, signing up for the tour directly includes boat tickets and scenic train tickets, which are often difficult to secure. Furthermore, our guide, Daqiao, provided service that was beyond excellent. He was friendly, professional, and skillfully switched between three languages (Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin) to provide detailed explanations to our group, which included people from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. He meticulously explained the pick-up/drop-off times, itinerary details, and any potential adjustments due to unforeseen circumstances. On the day of the tour, he handled unexpected traffic situations and made necessary itinerary changes very smoothly. Besides being friendly, he also managed the group effectively, ensuring everyone cooperated to keep the tour on schedule. The weather was great, the scenery was stunning, and we were even more fortunate to have such a thoughtful and attentive guide. It was truly a perfect day trip, and I would definitely sign up again if I have the chance! Thank you, Daqiao!

Very clear pre tour information provided by tour agency over WhatsApp. Majority of the people in the bus came from Hong Kong and Taiwan and my husband and I were the only ones who cannot understand Chinese but Jimmy seamlessly spoke in English as well for us to understand which we very much appreciate (although we felt kind of guilty he had to repeat)! The Takachiho Gorge was quite a hike and won’t be suitable for elderly if they walk slow as there are many steps up and down as well. It is a beautiful waterfall and scenic spot. You got to row your own boat so thankfully we did not choose that but chose the train ride instead. Beautiful area in Miyazaki!
