What to expect

Takachiho Gorge is a natural wonder like a fairyland. The Manai Falls, cascading down steep cliffs, intertwine with the emerald green river. Boating through it, with cherry blossoms adorning both banks, is breathtakingly beautiful. Hiking along the trail by the gorge offers a panoramic view of the cherry blossom waterfall! Note⚠️: The Takachiho boat ride is for families of 2-3 people sharing one boat, ensuring undisturbed private time. Solo travelers will share a boat with other solo participants. In case of unforeseen circumstances leading to the cancellation of the boat ride, a refund of 2000 JPY per person will be issued.

  • Takachiho Sightseeing Train A slow journey on an old railway, preserving the most pristine appearance of Kyushu’s countryside. It offers not only the childlike fun of a bubble machine but also the wild aspirations of the Takachiho countryside~
  • Forest Secret Cafe (Kakure Cafe) Deep in the lush forest, beside a gurgling stream in the valley, the “Forest Secret Cafe” stands quietly. This is not just a cafe, but an entrance to nature. Its signature beef burger, made with selected premium beef, is hand-patted daily. The thick patty locks in juices during grilling, with a slightly charred exterior and tender interior. Paired with fresh vegetables and a secret sauce, each bite offers the richness and sincerity of the valley.
  • Amanoyasu-kawara A spiritual place in Japanese mythology! Located in a secluded cave, it not only boasts unique natural scenery but also holds the legend of Amaterasu Omikami’s seclusion. Small stone towers piled up by visitors fill the area in front of the cave, and during cherry blossom season, it exudes an even more mysterious and romantic atmosphere. Explore multiple attractions in one day, making your trip worthwhile~ Kind Reminder Although there may be instances of failed purchases for Takachiho boat tickets online, if you have purchased a package including tickets, we will do our best to secure them for you. If we are unable to purchase them, we will notify you via email at least 4 days in advance. Thank you for your understanding!* Takachiho Gorge has many steps, and a round trip is expected to take 20-30 minutes. Please wear comfortable shoes. It is not suitable for those with mobility issues. Thank you. ⚠️ Travel Notice August 8th – August 16th is the Obon holiday travel season in Japan, which may lead to traffic congestion, large crowds, attractions closing early, or changes in itinerary times. Please do not book dinner, flights, or Shinkansen for that day, and it is recommended to bring a portable charger (power bank). Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Review for: Chinese and English tour guide (including boat ticket, excluding small train ticket)

Although most of the participants were from overseas, we are Japanese and included this Miyazaki tour on the second day of our Fukuoka trip. Our guide, Seven, spoke some Japanese, but primarily communicated in English and Chinese. Detailed communications, such as important notes, were handled via LINE. She was very kind! Our bus driver was Japanese, and since we were the only Japanese passengers, he was very attentive and kind to us! Thank you very much! On both the outbound and return journeys between Fukuoka and Miyazaki, there was one restroom break at a highway service area. That was reassuring, haha. For those who wanted to ride the trolley, the guide asked us on the bus, and we paid on the spot. This tour was a great plan, packing all the desired destinations into the available time. Highly recommended! However, please be aware that the path from Takachiho's Third Parking Lot to the boat boarding area is quite challenging, with uneven ground and an uphill walk of about 20 minutes.

Review for: Takachiho Railway Grand Super Cart Classic Day Trip

I saw a video about the Amateratsu Railway and wanted to include it in my itinerary, but transport is difficult from Hakata station. Because of that, it didn't seem viable, until I looked on Klook. This one had an itinerary that interested me. The travel time was a bonus to see rural Fukuoka. The places we went to: Amanoiwato Riverbed, Takachiho Gorge, and Amateratsu Railway were all gorgeous and breathtaking. Wendy helped the experience better. She made sure that we weren't running too late, and was organised. I am not the fittest person, so she was able to suggest with the walking trail of Takachiho Gorge, to get a taxi back to the carpark from the end of trail instead of walking back (it's more uphill/more going up stairs). This is was an amazing experience. If you're in Fukuoka, I'd recommend giving this a go. It's nothing like I've done before. I had an amazing time.

Today, I was fortunate to join a tour group led by guide Zhang Chao. He was professional, diligent, and meticulous. As soon as we boarded the bus, he handed out cards he had thoughtfully prepared, complete with a custom stamp he designed, so we could collect stamps at each stop as souvenirs. Along the way, he shared fascinating stories of the Takachiho myths, brought to life with accompanying images he had prepared. Since it was an early start, he also thoughtfully allowed time for everyone to rest. Throughout the trip, he constantly reminded us of important details, always looking out for everyone to ensure no one was left behind. Combined with the breathtaking scenery, the entire journey was a wonderful experience!

Takachiho Gorge has always been on my bucket list, and since transportation can be a bit complicated, I chose the Klook tour. The itinerary was very smooth. At Amano Iwato Shrine, you only need to walk a short distance to see the beautiful scenery. The miniature train was indeed full of childlike fun. The highlight was Takachiho Gorge, and we chose the ticket that included boating. Since it was my first time boating, I was a bit worried, but after trying it, I felt it was so much fun! I'm glad I chose the package that included boating. Finally, I must commend the tour guide; his explanations were very clear, he took great care of the group members, and he even helped us order our meals!

Prepare for lots of walking. The train ride was okay but short. Despite it being destroyed by the storm, I love how the locals really pushed to open it again even if it’s short ride. I hope the govt can fund it to the original track. Shrine in the cave was very unique. Plus the gorge is beautiful. If you want to eat Soba noodles, you’ll have to wait around 30mins though.

Great itinerary. The locations are distant from each other so this day trip works well. Jimmy was a great guide and very helpful. If you’re travelling with a group be sure to sit across from each other in the train for views from both sides of the train.

This is was my second tour in my Kyushu trip. I really enjoyed Takachiho Train… the View in Takachiho Gorge. Our tour guide Moon ensured that we will visit all the sites on time. She is kinda strict but very professional and i like how she organized this trip so that all of us will really enjoy and avoid any delays. Moon is really an expert in the area and she suggests the best foods like the Miyazaki mango ice cream etc. Overall i really enjoyed this trip!

Mr. Wang's service was thoughtful and thorough, with detailed explanations. We enjoyed the experience of riding a small train in the rain, with bubbles drifting through the lush canyon forest 🌳. The only regret was not being able to go boating in Takachiho Gorge due to the rain, and thus not fully enjoying its beauty! However, a romantic walk in the rain is a rare and special experience! We look forward to visiting again!
