Stepping into this space, hailed as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, the initial impression is indeed breathtaking. The red spiral staircase, like a flowing ribbon, guides your gaze all the way to the second floor; the wooden bookshelves and stained-glass skylight allow light to fall warmly upon the book spines. It's said that J.K. Rowling once lived in this city, and such scenes are often associated with her inspiration for writing "Harry Potter." Standing in the center of the staircase and looking up, one truly gets the illusion of walking into a magical academy's library.
However, reality is quite interesting—there are more people than books. Everyone holds up their phones, searching for the perfect angle, waiting for a brief moment when the staircase is clear. So, I simply used a slow shutter speed, turning the crowd into flowing trails. The architecture is still, but time is in motion. At that moment, I suddenly understood that its most captivating aspect isn't just its reputation as the "most beautiful," but rather how this century-old space continues to attract people from all over the world to pilgrimage here. It's the most beautiful, and also the most bustling; a bit noisy, yet very real.

The moment I walked into the church, I initially thought it was just a light show, but it turned out to be like stepping into a conversation about “time.” The stone walls, originally cold and heavy, carried centuries of prayers and history. But when the projections lit up, the walls began to flow, as if life was breathing within them. The light patterns, like neural networks, extended across the arches and climbed the pillars, resembling cracks in time and the textures of memory.
The most stunning aspect wasn't the dazzling colors, but the moments when darkness and light alternated. When the space was almost entirely covered by gray and white lines, with only the altar faintly shimmering with a golden glow, I suddenly understood what “awe” felt like. It wasn't the oppression brought by religion itself, but the feeling of human insignificance before immense history and the cosmos. Technology didn't destroy the sacred; instead, it seemed to add a new language to it, allowing the ancient architecture to be re-understood.
Looking up, I felt as if I stood on the axis of time. Above was flowing light, below was silent stone, and where the two converged, there I was in that moment. This light show made me ponder how humanity, across different generations, always seeks faith in different ways. In the past, it was frescoes and sculptures; now, it's projections and lasers. But the essence hasn't changed—we still yearn to be illuminated by light.
Leaving the church, I wasn't in a hurry to take more photos. Instead, I let that quiet feeling linger in my heart. Perhaps the true impact isn't how magnificent the visuals are, but how it made me pause briefly and re-experience my connection to the world.

Ease of booking with Klook: Really easy.
Facility: If you're going to Porto, I think it's a must-see. It's very crowded inside, but I felt it was truly worth the visit.

There were many visitors on Valentine's Day. The three-wine tasting experience was unhurried, allowing us to slowly savor and enjoy. Afterwards, we just made it in time to watch the sunset, a perfectly arranged day.

Gain a deeper understanding of how Port wine is made, followed by a superb tasting experience. Both the ambiance and the three Port wines paired with cheese and chocolate were absolutely wonderful!

I never imagined I could enjoy such a sci-fi, dazzling light art feast in an ancient church.
