Next, the "Mythical Beasts Revealed - Fantastic Creatures in Artifacts" special exhibition on the first floor captivated me. While admiring the adorable mythical beasts, I also became curious about their history. Through searching, I gained a deeper understanding of the cultural background and customs of that time. My favorite exhibits this time, such as the Xi Zun, Ganesha, and Wind Lion God, are all charming mythical creatures 😆

It's still not too late to buy tickets at the door! If you see a long queue, this is a lifesaver that can immediately save you time. The only downside is that there's no physical ticket to collect! The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum has a vast area, and in fact, even the free exhibition halls on the first floor have many things worth seeing, including overlaid maps of Chiayi from various eras. I particularly like the curator's style, so I've visited three or four times. Each time, I only had half a day and felt rushed. This last time, I finally had the chance to explore for a whole day and felt incredibly satisfied~

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the Edo Ukiyo-e Special Exhibition from May 30 to August 31, 2025, is also wonderful. The museum also features a children's center, which is great for kids. Edo Ukiyo-e / Tea Culture / Ming Dynasty Exhibits / Textile Exhibition / Imperial Seal / Accessories – the exhibitions are incredibly rich and diverse, featuring various creative interactive games and rubbings. The space is large and comfortable to walk through, with excellent indoor lighting. The staff are enthusiastic and helpful, and there are many rest areas. Food is available both inside and outside the museum. The only drawback was the large crowds during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, which affected the quality of the visit. I look forward to the next special exhibition.
