The tour was well organized. Our tour guide, Mr. Guang, was awesome. He was so energetic, and we made delicious food.
Overall, it was a great experience – it included a tour of the local market, a boat tour and fishing, and the cooking class itself. Our guide explained most things, but his English wasn't the best, and he seemed to become a bit impatient at times. Still a fun experience; recommended!
The pickup vehicle was waiting in front of the hotel at the scheduled time. We got off at Hoi An Market, met the local guide, listened to explanations, and walked around the market. At first, I thought he was just a guide, but he turned out to be a chef who would lead the cooking class. I was a bit disappointed that there was no explanation about the cooking ingredients while we were looking around the market. When we went to ride the basket boat, we got on the boat and moved while wearing life jackets. The basket boat rowers drove safely, and in the middle, they made grasshoppers and crowns from coconut leaf stems, which doubled the fun and made me feel good. During the cooking class, they kindly explained things, mixing in Korean, so it was great to be able to easily try making Vietnamese food.
My partner, who is a head chef in Australia, and I booked this cooking class and had the most amazing time. Quan and his wife made us feel so welcomed and went above and beyond with their hospitality. This was hands down the best Vietnamese food we’ve had this whole trip. The communication from booking up until they dropped us back to our hotel after the tour was professional and made it very easy. We will be telling all our friends and family to book this tour when they come to Hoi An. 10000% recommend!
It was truly enjoyable and the cooking class was superb.
In the afternoon, we went directly to the pier to take a boat. After about 30 minutes, we transferred to a bamboo basket boat to see traditional fishing and passed under the fishing nets (which were elevated). Afterwards, we went crabbing, and the children were very happy to catch two crabs. The boatman wove some jewelry and headwear for us from bamboo leaves, making it a very worthwhile trip. Finally, we went to a cooking class. We spent a relaxing afternoon in the cooking class, drinking cool beverages in the hot afternoon, and then enjoyed the dinner we cooked ourselves. Everyone was very happy.
I joined this local activity with my family that included coconut boat ride and viet cooking class. The overall experience was memorable and interesting, especially the cooking experience with my family. They could help on arranging the car as we lived at Da Nang (not Hoi An), this is convenient for us. When we arrived the village, we walked on a bamboo made bridge, to the coconut boat. This is a bit unexpected, it would be better if the guide could explain this ahead. And the coconut boat ride, we have 4 people only, it was a bit boring, the staff hadn’t helped on photo taking and haven’t been chatted with us, as they cannot communicate in English. The fun part of the whole activity was the cooking class by Chef Lily. She is professional and very nice with smile. Well prepared everything and the process is amazing. Willing to help us to take photos, and explained the viet cooking style. And she chatted with us and let us know more about viet. I would recommend this tour.
It was a lovely experience, but there was just something missing. Most reviews talk about how great and informative the market section of the tour was, but for us, it didn't feel very detailed or informative. We stopped at 2 shops and tried 3 fruits and some coconut chips, and we were shown different coffees. The fishing part was maybe 2 minutes long; you see a man on a boat throwing the net once, and then you float away in the coconut boats. The best part was definitely the cooking class. Lily was so informative and helpful and even gave us a cookbook as well as her number in case we needed any help when making the food at home!
Our teacher, Quan, was very attentive and patient. He didn't rush us while we were shopping at the market, and the bamboo basket boat ride was a lot of fun. Quan was very humorous during the cooking class, allowing us to complete this culinary experience in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. The entire itinerary was very rich, and our friends who came along also raved about it. For anyone who wants to experience a cooking class in Hoi An, I highly recommend this tour.
