Amazing views, beautiful building, pretty day and especially night and very easy voucher to use/redeem. We had no luck seeing Fuji-San but still enjoyed our time there with the gorgeous Tokyo tower and city views and the Monowit exhibit and the super creative Nano-Nano exhibit at the exit. Highly recommend.
1. If you go at night, the background (the observatory wall behind the person taking the photo) reflects a lot in the glass. It's best to find a position and angle where there's minimal reflection. 2. It's definitely prettier at night. Because of this, there might even be a line at spots with the Tokyo Tower in the background. Be aware that some people might inconsiderately take photos there for a long time. 3. The entrance and exit are different, and you have to go all the way around. The closer you get to the exit, the less you can see the Tokyo Tower, but it's quieter and there are places to lean and take photos, so the atmosphere is better. (However, if you like night views, the scenery around Tokyo Tower is still better.) 4. How to enter: Find the Mori Tower Gallery and take the elevator to the 3rd floor -> Buy tickets at the 3rd-floor ticket office or present your pre-purchased ticket QR code -> Follow the instructions and take the elevator to the 52nd floor in order (scan your QR code to enter).
After checking the Tokyo sunset time on the day of our visit, we made a 7 PM reservation and arrived around 6:45 PM. We were able to enter smoothly with the guidance of the very kind staff. We watched the streets of Tokyo as dusk turned to night, and it was a truly wonderful experience.
Strolling through Roppongi Hills, I happened upon a special exhibition for "The Apothecary Diaries." A cute, chibi-style cat-eared cat figurine sat beside a teacup, its adorable appearance adding a touch of charm and whimsical atmosphere to the modern exhibition hall high above. From day to night, the observation deck's massive floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views of Tokyo. During the day, the Tokyo Tower stands proudly amidst the cloud-shrouded city skyline; as night falls, countless lights converge into a dazzling sea of stars, with the distant golden-red tower resembling the brightest heart in the darkness. Whether it's the modern architecture and art installations on the ground or the million-dollar night view from above, Roppongi Hills showcases Tokyo's unique prosperity and romance.
The observatory offered a truly beautiful view from the 52nd floor. Since we entered at 7 PM, we were able to witness the transition from the evening glow to the night view. There was an exhibition for the manga "Chi.", and although the line was so long we could barely move, it's a fond memory now. Merchandise related to "Chi." was also being sold. I bought candy containing algae that had traveled to space. Honestly, I couldn't really taste the algae, but it was a NASA product, and perhaps because of the "Chi." connection, NASA food items (like freeze-dried ice cream and other dried foods) were also being sold, which was interesting to see. The exhibition style for "Chi." was also very unique; the experience of entering a dark room, in particular, might be enjoyable even for those not very familiar with the manga. I'd like to go back again to relax my mind.
This was hands down the best Tokyo viewpoint. It's much better than Shibuya Sky and far less crowded. You should book it during sunset to enjoy both views. The Tokyo Tower view at night is spectacular. A very good option if Shibuya Sky is sold out.
