An unforgettable experience... something you shouldn't miss... an amazing art form that is slowly disappearing... the class is well worth the time and money... and the scarf you get to take home is simply beautiful... I cannot recommend this enough.
The booking worked out perfectly, and we were expected on site. For the two of us, an instructor was available who could communicate well with us in English. All steps were well explained and supervised. We were warned about possible burns when dipping into the hot dyes and were also supervised during the work. The result turned out great. The two scarves were ironed and handed over to us in clear film packaging at the end. We enjoyed the course and now have a handmade souvenir from Japan.
10/10 would go again. The museum director is amazing and the language barrier wasn't an issue with the gesticulation and his enthusiasm. The class was so nice and stress free, with such an easy to learn process. The museum truly shows how much Shibori is an amazing art technique with immeasurable skill involved.
One of the best things we did in Kyoto! I would highly recommend this to anyone in the area - the instructors were helpful and explained things well. Afterwards you are able to go into the upstairs museum and learn more about the history of Shibori which I also recommend. We did did this class first thing in the morning, then walked just a few minutes to Nijo-Jo Castle - so if you are planning to visit the castle while your in Kyoto, this would be a great addition to that!
Such a fun class to take! The instructors and staff are so nice, vibrant and friendly! They are so passionate about teaching the history of shibori. The museum and shop have been in the family for three generations, it’s beautiful. The museum walk through is a visual delight and so informing of the painstaking work that goes into the detail of this art. 110% recommend this, can’t say enough great things about it! :D
It was just a fantastic experience!! The teachers are very nice, they speak very good English, they help you a lot to make your artwork!! The exhibition is beautiful, amazing pieces!! I am very thankful that I participated in this workshop, thank you so much!! ❤️
This was the absolute best! I can not recommend this class more - so much fun for myself and my 11 year old daughter, and we got to come home with the most beautiful scarves. Thank you so much, it was a real highlight.
We had a wonderful time at the Shibori workshop. Yamamoto-san was very friendly and instructive. We got to dye our scarves in 2 colors and had a lot of designs to choose from. The workshop was about an hour long. It was cool to visit the museum upstairs as well.
the staff were very knowledgeable and accommodating to my wife and I for our honeymoon. They guided us step by step throughout the process but still allowed us to be hands on enough for us to feel accomplished with our shibori scarves! Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a fun workshop and keepsake!
wonderful experience for our family that introduced us to the amazing and beautiful world of shiburi. It's not t-shirt dyeing with rubber bands; but a world of subspecialized artizens and master craftsman with hundreds of different styles. The museum and video were wonderful. The shop was dangerous with many beautiful things for sale as a steep discount to Japanese department store prices. Do not worry if you yourself are not artistic, the process is very easy to follow along with.
