Tóquio: Workshop de Caligrafia e Pergaminho em Shinjuku

This Klook activity was a five-star experience for me! Manami-sensei was a patient and very capable teacher, and it's partly because of her that this activity left such a lasting and positive impression. I think this activity is definitely worth the time and money: I learned a new skill, discovered how my name is written in Japanese, understood a facet of Japanese culture better, and took home many unique souvenir items from my trip to Japan. Overall, this is an activity I would do again if given the chance. The studio (if you follow the guide here on Klook) is easy to find, just be mindful that it's not on the ground level! You have to take a cute elevator that's accessible via the pedestrian sidewalk beside the liquor store to get there. Taking home a shirt with your personalized, hand-written calligraphy is also not included in the price, but I think it's worth it if you decide to get one. All the studio's personnel were welcoming and helpful, so there are no issues at all if you plan to do this solo.

I had an amazing teacher, Ai. I really enjoyed my calligraphy class with her. She told me something about history and then explained the writing technique. I could do it all day; it's a nice relaxation too.

The 2 hours I spent here were super good and highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to understand Japanese crafts deeply. The instructor was very well prepared and gave us a brief intro about the scripts and helped us thoroughly, so much so he drew a guide for me separately for a kanji I was having difficulty writing. Even went around the class and demonstrated how to get the brush strokes right. Big shout-out to our guide Nono, she was really sweet and translated Japanese literally word to word and was very enthusiastic throughout the class and guided us very well!!!

We had a wonderful experience with our calligraphy lecturer Hiromi. She explained everything in detail, was really patient with all our questions, and is definitely an expert in this field. She was friendly, waited for us in front of 7/11, and had great English, so the whole experience went smoothly.

本当に豊かな経験でした！息子と私は二人とも、日本語のカタカナと漢字について多くのことを学び、この経験から多くのものを得ることができました。書道の先生である宗仙さんと、英語を話すガイドの愛梨さんは、とても親しみやすく知識も豊富でした。Tシャツに自分の名前を書くのは、素晴らしい記念品になりました。素晴らしい家族の経験です。

I had a great experience with Yui the translator and Sousen Master. I was really interested in the process and history. They were able to answer all of my questions. A must experience if you want to learn more about their culture and writing. Thanks to both of you. 🙏🏽

Tuvimos una pequeña clase privada de caligrafía con el sensei/sonnen y Yui. Ambos fueron pacientes, amables y serviciales mientras nos guiaban a mí, a mi esposa y a nuestra hija de 9 años a través de los trazos de pincel de la caligrafía tradicional. Aprendimos sobre los diferentes tipos de caracteres japoneses (Hiragana, Katakana y Kanji), así como las diferentes variaciones/estilos de cómo "dibujar" los caracteres. Fue una gran experiencia, desde hacer la tinta con las tabletas de tinta de arcilla y los palitos de tinta, hasta practicar nuestros nombres en papel washi tradicional, e incluso pudimos hacer camisetas. ¡Excelente tienda, gente agradable y un momento divertido!
