It was a very beautiful trip, though extremely windy. I loved the fact that we were given a minivan for this trip (it is usually conducted via public transport, which would have taken up a lot more time and reduced time spent at each location). As a result, we were able to walk through the entire Oshima Island, which honestly was extremely beautiful and my favorite part of the whole trip! The guide, Mike, was also really knowledgeable! We also had some amazing seafood in the town of Tojinbo. I would strongly recommend this tour.
I loved this tour! Mike was incredibly knowledgeable about history and was so interesting to chat with. The foot onsen at the end of the trip was amazing! This tour was one of the highlights of our Japan trip.
This tour is worth the time as the itinerary is a gem. You won’t be able to access these areas without the knowledge of an experienced guide. Gareth was fantastic - energetic and has a wealth of information. The Fukui cliffs were indeed stunning and the wet weather we experienced only enhanced the beauty of the cliffs. The “whale” island was a beauty with the red bridge. A little uphill hiking is required for this destination - and depending on weather can be muddy (so no white shoes). Up on the “whale’s” back, you will be greeted by an abundance of greenery that resembles a tropical forests with the smell of wet soil and rustling leaves. At the head of the “whale”, we were greeted by more stunning cliffs + view of open sea. At Tojinbo, Garreth shared more legend and we saw more cliffs with crashing waves! We also visited a heritage temple with a beautiful zen garden. Ended the day with a foot spa onsen at Awara Onsen - a bonus for hardworking feet + offset the cold weather. What makes the tour experience unique - every place was accessed via Japan’s trusty public transportation! This is truly a very refreshing experience for me as I am not a fan of big tour group + tour bus. We got to experience Shinkansen + local bus + taxi! What an enjoyable and memorable day tour!
The tour guide Garrett was very friendly and he introduced information about the spots very well. The scenic spots we went to had spectacular views and they were not packed at all. A very nice local tour overall. One caution for participants though is that there is a lot of walking to do. It may not be desirable for those who can’t walk long distances.
Zach was a fantastic guide - friendly, knowledgeable and took great care of us for the day. It was easy conversation having an English speaking guide, we enjoyed getting out of the city and seeing the rock formations and shrines, historic streets and port, and magnificent temple and its beautiful cool garden. The foot onsen at the end of the day revived our tired feet and legs and the Shinkansen rides are always enjoyable.
