We started with a cruise nearby, then headed to the Marine Ranch platform for dinner. The Marine Ranch offers all-you-can-eat grilled oysters and seafood congee, though the congee didn't have much in it, leaving me feeling a bit empty even after four bowls... Additionally, there was an à la carte service on the boat, but the dishes were quite expensive, which was a shame. You could fish for small squid in the sea from the boat, and if you caught one, the kitchen could cook it for you on the spot. However, only one person on the entire boat managed to catch anything, so the chances were extremely low. On the platform, there was also recreational fishing (hookless, bait only) where you could try to catch cobia and cuttlefish, among others. Overall, the experience was pretty good!
It was good, I'll buy it again next time. On the way there, the sea breeze was pleasant, but the tour guide's explanation was a bit hard to hear because some of the passengers on the boat were noisy. After boarding, seating arrangements are made according to the number of people who purchased tickets, and someone will guide you on how to shuck oysters. Sometimes the oysters burst open when roasted, so don't sit too close to avoid injury. Watching the sunset from the boat was beautiful. The car and seafood porridge were both good, without any fishy smell, and it was an all-you-can-eat buffet. There are also restrooms, a children's play area, and karaoke on the boat. There's a one-hour overlap between sessions, which can make it a bit noisy and crowded, so I think booking the 4:30 PM session is a good idea.
The grilled oysters are excellent, fresh, and cooked perfectly, but the seafood congee has very few ingredients; it's basically dried fish congee. I feel the seafood congee is mainly used to balance the saltiness of the oysters. The staff are also very enthusiastic and sufficient in number. The children's playground equipment is well-maintained, with swings, slides, rocking horses, and seesaws, making it rich and fun! In July, there are no cuttlefish to catch, so only large fish like cobia are available for fishing. In summer, I recommend the 4:30 PM slot, returning at 6:30 PM; the sunset over the sea is incredibly beautiful. Overall, it's a highly cost-effective itinerary.
It's very suitable for family trips. Especially if you buy the sunset tour, you can first take a boat to watch the sunset. There's a guided tour on board where you can learn about Penghu. Afterwards, you'll go to the marine ranch for free oyster grilling and all-you-can-eat seafood congee. You can also pay for additional meals. After eating, you can experience fishing and squid fishing on the platform, making for a fulfilling evening itinerary.
First, a tour guide will briefly explain Penghu's landmarks, and then we'll arrive at the offshore platform in about 30 minutes. There, you can enjoy unlimited oysters and seafood congee, and also fish or squid jig on the platform. However, the time is quite tight; we'll have to return within approximately an hour and a half of arriving at the platform (this includes eating and fishing).
The all-you-can-eat grilled oysters were delicious! The staff taught us how to grill them, how to tell when they were cooked, and how to open the shells. There was also seafood congee available, and we could try the fishing experience. We held fishing rods with fish tails tied to them, but we were actually just feeding the fish; we couldn't catch anything. Still, it was quite fun.
Initially, an uncle will guide you, and the content is very rich. The grilled oysters are super small and difficult to open. You have to pay extra to buy barbecue, otherwise there's not much to eat. Fishing for cobia is very powerful, so children should be careful not to get hurt. Fishing for squid is like fishing for loneliness; no one on the whole boat caught any.
The outbound tour guide provided an insightful introduction to Penghu's history, geography, and culture. There was an all-you-can-eat grilled oyster and savory porridge buffet, and you could bring cash to order additional dishes like squid balls on site! Although it was a bit disappointing that it was hard to catch squid, the itinerary was very well-paced, and we arrived back quickly, so it wasn't too late!
The oysters are quite fresh, and you can take as many as you like. There are drinks and other grilled ingredients sold on the boat (but not many varieties). If you like to drink beverages, you might want to buy them before getting on the boat, because you'll really want a drink after all that grilling. Also, I didn't catch any squid that day, so sad.
The departure time is 6:00 PM, where you can enjoy the sunset, the beautiful scenery of Penghu, and the night view. You can also eat as much fresh oysters and seafood congee as you like. If you're not shy, you can even sing a song or two at karaoke. The departure in late August was a bit hot. It's a pity we didn't catch any squid, but the experience of fishing at the sea ranch was also quite good.
