A great traditional Japanese experience. I think the listing is wrong as it comes with both breakfast and dinner. The food was plentiful and is a set multi course meal with LOTS of food from Miso Soup to Horse Sashimi. Bedding is traditional mat and very firm so take that into consideration if you have a sore back or are used to a soft western bed. The options for private onsen were incredible. They all have doors that lock and you just go in whatever one you like as long as it's vacant and lock the door behind you. We never had to wait for one to be free. They were all undercover but some were open on one side looking to the bamboo which was nice. Overall, for my western taste buds & bed preferences - this was something very different and not for me long term. But you can't fault the staff and onsen. Worth one night at least for the traditional experience.

Very good onsen ryokan, its best merit is it is situated at the heart of the kurakawa onsen village. Unfortunately for us it rained both days we were there so we couldn't explore the town. Service is excellent. For the price I wish the food was a little fancier (it's primarily beef and vegetables, not much fish or seafood) but it was tasty nevertheless. Had a great time and would recommend to anyone visiting Kurakawa
