GoodStayed with partner
This hotel was fine for the price, and would probably be willing to stay here again, but this is not what I would call a "nice hotel." The whole house is quirky, feels a little unfinished, and the walls are thin so you can hear people moving around in the house at all hours. Our beds were comfortable, and it was nice that the room had a mini fridge, microwave, and sink. There is also a shared kitchen. Upon arrival, we were charged an extra 200 yen per person per day for the hotel tax, and an extra 300 yen per person per day for access to the onsen. We were fine paying this, but it was a little bit of a surprise, especially because there was no alternative way to bathe/shower. The onsen was the highlight of this hotel for us. It is a private bath that comfortably fit two of us, which was romantic and relaxing.

Well decorated, but the bathroom wasn’t clean, Onsen was burning hot, washing machine didn’t work, they have a book of rules, and I got locked out at 9:25PM. I rarely write bad reviews, but this place was not good.

The house, the open-air bath, and the staff are all amazing. The house is clean and renewed well, not showing its age at all. Kitchen is clean, bathroom is modern. Location is a 5m hilly walk away from nearest train station, not a problem for me.
The single, biggest issue is that the "beds" in the house are thin pads on top of hardwood frames - absolutely zero comfort. It's worse than a traditional futon on tatami. Might be tolerable for people who sleep on your back, but otherwise, if you want a good night's rest: avoid.

I can see it being a good place for large friend groups. That's pretty much where the positives end. It's a share house style place, entry door is open 24/7 so anyone can come and go. The house is old, smells, noisy (neighbors and wind). They basically took a traditional house, threw in a bunch of random crap and call it a guest house. Pick somewhere else unless you have absolutely no choice.
