Things to do in Doi Suthep

More than a sunrise tour, this half day was truly meaningful, and our guide James was the highlight! We started by buying food to give dana (alms) at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, passing the statue of the monk who raised funds to build the mountain road. James used to be a monk, so he explained the Buddha's story, the temple murals and the meaning of the pillar decorations. The sunrise was stunning, with the whole city below as James shared each temple's story. Wat Pha Lat is a peaceful hidden gem. Through his connections with the monks, James gave us real insight into monastic life and the meaning behind the nagas, tigers and deities. Our favourite was Wat Umong. We tried local instruments and drinks at a small event and explored the meditation tunnels a king built for a revered monk (with cute bats inside!). It felt like visiting historic Lanna temples with an actual monk by your side. Highly recommended, and James is the best guide!

We had a group size of 8 with people from 3 different countries! Our guide shared some history of Chiang Mai and of the 2 temples we were visiting. Duration was just right and thankful for the transportation to and from hotel!

This was the only tour available when I booked the day before, so I chose it. However, it turned out to be much better than I expected, and I'm glad I picked this one over other tours. The meeting time is very early, which makes the morning a bit challenging, but because of that, the temples and hiking trails were less crowded, allowing for a stress-free experience. Unfortunately, it was cloudy this time, so we couldn't see the sunrise. Our guide was also very thorough and made the experience enjoyable. I'm very grateful. We arrived back at the hotel before 9 AM, which meant we had the rest of the day to enjoy, making it very efficient. I highly recommend this tour.

The half day tour is good, not too long and not tiring. Guide, Mee is great, professional and can speak well in both languages, English and Mandarin. pick up at hotel and flexible in dropping us, a location along the way. Last stop, a temple high up in a mountain, the climb of 300 stairs was a good exercise and fantastic view of Chiang Mai city.

Loved this tour! Hiking the Monk's Trail up to Doi Suthep was so much better than just driving to the top. The trail was shaded and easy to follow, Wat Pha Lat was peaceful and beautiful, and we reached Doi Suthep before the crowds. Our guide was great and shared lots of history along the way. Highly recommend!

We had such a great experience with our tour guide, Banana! 🍌 He was funny, friendly, and very informative throughout the whole tour. He explained the history, culture, and local traditions really well, which made the experience even more meaningful and interesting. What we appreciated the most was how caring and attentive he was to all the tourists. He always made sure everyone was comfortable, safe, and enjoying the tour. This is a great tour and highly recommend. From the first friendly greeting from our guide at the meet point, we felt welcome. We were driven to the temples in a comfortable van with our guide explaining the outline of the evening. When we arrived at the temples, he explained their history in excellent English. We would have missed much of their meaning if we had been on our own. We engaged in some activities which were fun and really made the trip special. If you are thinking of a tour of these mountain temples, choose this one.

Our guide was incredibly kind from start to finish and provided excellent explanations in English! They worked so hard from early in the morning, and it was a great experience that our visit happened to fall on a commemorative day in Thailand!
