Mae Rim

The cool season from November to February is the best time to visit Mae Rim. Temperatures drop pleasantly in the evenings and mornings, flowers bloom across the terraced hillsides of Mon Jam, and the fresh mountain air is at its most invigorating. The Chiang Mai Flower Festival in February is a highlight. The rainy season (June to October) brings lush greenery but can make mountain roads slippery; the hot season (March to May) is manageable for indoor and shaded activities.

Mae Rim is about 20 km north of Chiang Mai city. From Chang Phueak Bus Terminal, local buses depart every 30 minutes and take around 30 minutes to reach Mae Rim. A taxi or Grab ride from the old city takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Renting a car or motorbike from Chiang Mai is the most convenient option if you plan to explore Mae Rim's various attractions independently.

A rented motorbike or car is strongly recommended as attractions are spread along Highway 107 and various mountain roads. From the main road, side roads lead to the Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden, Mae Sa Waterfall, Mon Jam, and various elephant sanctuaries. Songthaews (red shared trucks) serve the main highway corridor, but reaching more remote spots like Mon Jam requires private transport. Many tour operators in Chiang Mai offer combined day trips to multiple Mae Rim attractions.

The Mae Rim valley along Highway 107 is central and convenient, with many resorts and guesthouses at various price points.
