Serving as a base for the Viet Cong troops, these tunnels span over 250 kilometers (155 miles) and include hidden entrances, living quarters, hospitals and storage facilities. Situated in Cu Chi District, northwest of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, the Cu Chi Tunnels were built in the late 1940s during the first Indochina war against the French colonialists, and expanded during the Vietnam War. They were designed with hidden trapdoors, ventilation holes disguised as termite mounds and booby traps to evade enemy troop presence. They were also used as communication and supply routes for launching surprise attacks against enemy forces. This coffee workshop was a wonderful and relaxing experience. The egg coffee was absolutely amazing, it tasted just like tiramisu and was a real highlight. We learned how to make drip coffee properly, which was very informative and hands-on. The workshop had a calm and comfortable atmosphere, making it easy to enjoy and focus on learning. Highly recommended for coffee lovers who want to learn, relax, and enjoy great coffee. ☕

Did the market tour + cooking class and didn’t regret choosing this option. The market tour not only showed us what ingredients they use and where it came from but also gave us suggestions on where we could buy it (great for people wanting to bring home the exact spices used in the class). The cooking class was very interactive and had a good instructor that didn’t rush us when we struggled with some steps. The dishes we made were also really delicious and it was so cool that each student had the chance to flambé the meat we used for the salad. Would recommend for those wanting to learn more about Vietnamese cuisine or maybe for those who simply want to have fun while eating good food🫶

The lady was really nice. She even offered to style my hair with accessories, however my hair is too short to be styled. There were a lot of ao dai colors and designs to choose from. However, the option sizes are very limited. The ao dais are mostly for slim people, probably because the vietnamese are slim in general. The shop can be difficult to find but it is just inside the alley almost in front of the pink church. You can rent the ao dais until 6PM

Fantastic 5.0
I found out that the restaurant where I had a delicious meal on my previous trip to Vietnam offered a cooking class tour, so I arranged it. In the morning, I took a Grab (self-arranged) from the hotel to the meeting point at the market. From 8:00 AM, Chef Phu and the other participants (a father and son from Taiwan, a cheerful couple from the Philippines, and two of us cooking enthusiasts from Japan) listened to Chef Phu's friendly and cheerful explanations while touring dried goods, grains, fresh fish, vegetables, fruits, and chè. We moved to the kitchen in a taxi arranged by the chef. We learned while relaxing, with considerations to avoid fatigue, such as sitting down to cut vegetables in a system where we cooked and ate three dishes. The quantity was so generous that we didn't need lunch, and the taste was excellent. There were so many dishes I wanted to recreate after returning home. Finally, while enjoying a dessert of white balls in ginger syrup prepared by the chef, we joined the classmates even though we only spoke simple English, asked the chef questions, and had a wonderful four hours. A local Vietnamese madam who hadn't participated in the market tour joined us from the kitchen. Everyone was interested and asked about the seasoning because they were using very good fish sauce in the lesson. I was convinced that "Hoa Tuc" is an attractive restaurant even for locals. I heard that they make different dishes on different days of the week, so I would like to change the day and participate again when I visit Vietnam. The lesson, a cute recipe book, and photos with everyone became souvenirs for myself.

Fantastic 5.0
I really enjoy participating in workshops when I come to Vietnam. It's a great way to learn more about Vietnamese food and how to make it. Making egg coffee with instructor Tom was easy, and the steps were clear. It's helpful to memorize the steps a little, as the numbers in the recipe PDF provided after the class are slightly different. The history of egg coffee was also explained clearly, making it a very insightful and relaxed activity. The whole thing takes about an hour, and you even get a certificate at the end – I know students really appreciate that. There are also promotional coffee bean sets available for students to buy, and you get a coffee discount coupon. I recommend ordering a different coffee after the workshop. I give this experience a very high rating.

Tips before Visiting Ho Chi Minh

1. Plan your trip around the lunar calendar

Before visiting Ho Chi Minh, check the lunar calendar for major festivals like Tet (Lunar New Year) or other cultural attractions and events. These holidays bring colorful parades, temple ceremonies, and traditional performances, but also crowded transport hubs and business closures.

2. You don’t need to carry cash

Ho Chi Minh City is almost cashless! Most coffee shops, food stalls, and shopping centers accept cards or digital payments. Download ride-hailing apps like Grab or Be to easily book and pay for rides, food deliveries, and even accommodation; there's no need to worry about exchanging money or carrying cash around.

3. Embrace the energy and excitement

Ho Chi Minh is a vibrant city that’s always alive with movement and sound. From motorbikes to lively street music, the energy here is contagious! You can embrace it all in! It’s this nonstop rhythm that gives Ho Chi Minh City its unforgettable Southeast Asian charm.

4. Respect personal space (or lack of it)

In Ho Chi Minh City, locals are friendly and warm, but personal space is more relaxed. You might get a pat on the shoulder or a compliment from a friendly stranger; take it as a sign of welcome.

5. Dress smart for temples and pagodas

You can wear almost anything in Vietnam’s largest city, but modest clothing is a must at religious sites. When visiting temples like the Jade Emperor Pagoda or other cultural attractions, cover your shoulders and knees to show respect.
