    A little over an hour west of Windsor Castle is Oxford, the home city of Oxford University, which was established way back in the 12th century. It has been a hub for many generations of scholars, artists, writers, scientists, and other intellectuals. It inspired so many creatives that the university’s structure was nicknamed “The Dreaming Spires” by poet Matthew Arnold.

    The next stop on the road trip from London to Bath is the village of Bourton-on-the-Water. It’s the definition of English rustic, with all its low bridges and traditional stone houses.
