JR Hokkaido Rail Pass

the hokkaido jr pass in 7 days is extremely useful. it helped me to take train to everywhere in long distance. everywhere you want to go can get to reach at there. especially to go to northern Hokkaido is quite far away. 稚內jr train station needs 3 hours and 45 minutes to get at there from 旭川. afterwards to reach 千岁city from 旭川. previously I usd it to get reach at eastern part of Hokkaido. so easy to take train by ordering tickets at jr stations. if take by bus it takes too long time. train is a better choice to choose is a better decision.

Best of the best railway pass! For foreigner traveller, remember to claim the ticket at JR tourist information counter. Although it is abit time consuming traveling from Sapporo to Hakodate (chasing for cherry blossom season at Goryokaku), I still managed to enjoy traveling with Hokuto Express Train. Also went to Otaru and Shiroishi by JR. WORTH THE PRICE!

I bought the 4 days Sapporo-Furano pass. Redemption process was easy. with the pass, you can have reserve seats for free on all express/rapid trains which will otherwise cost an extra JPY1000 on top of usual base fare. with the pass, I went to Asahikawa’s Asahiyama Zoo, Furano’s Ningle Terrace, Sapporo and Otaru. It’s well worth the value! I’d definitely recommend the pass for anyone planning to visit a few places in Hokkaido over a few days.

If you're thinking of traveling between cities, especially from Hakodate to Sapporo, this is a great deal. Just the round trip is almost the cost of the pass, and the remaining days are a bonus. This time, there's a bundled ticket: the "Have fun in Hokkaido Pass," which lets you choose 3 locations for 4xx baht, which is about 2000 yen. It's very cheap. You can enter participating locations and get discounts. For the first location, we chose Asahiyama Zoo, but you have to exchange the ticket at Asahikawa Station. They'll give you a package of tickets. There's an Information & Product Center on the far right side of the station (opposite AEON Mall). The entry fee is 1000 yen + a food discount ticket for 800 yen for cafes or restaurants in the zoo or around the zoo, because we also used it at a cafe outside (across from the zoo) + a 10% discount coupon for restaurants or gift shops in that area. It's worth it. The second location was Sapporo TV Tower, with an entry fee of 1000 yen. We were going to go to the third location (Mount Moiwa, the ropeway costs 2200 yen), but we didn't because we were tired and there was a snowstorm on the day we were going to go. But it was still worth the cost of the ticket.

easy to redeem and claim at the any station. fully utilize the pass for 5 days to eastern and northern hokkaido. easy to do seat reservation too either using machine or manual. covered all the seasonal trains as well!

easy to redeem. just gotta go any of the ticket redemption booth to activate. And inform the staff which date you wish to activate it. Recommended to redeem it as soon as you arrive because the queue may be long if you go to the booth on the day of activation. Its worth it especially if you are visiting multiple locations outside the city.

the jr pass is easy to use and you can get access to the all areas in JR Hokkaido, but you are advised to redeem your pass in the airport as the queue in Sapporo Station is very long and there are some delays in winter due to big snow.

Redemption of the voucher at JR station at new chitose airport was easy. I just showed the booking QR code and they asked the dates I wanted to use to pass and it was given with a cute ticket holder. I was able to use it on my trips to Otaru, Asahikawa, Biei, Furano and back to New Chitose Airport. I want to use it again when I come back in Summer.

definitely worth getting, especially since it also includes the train ride from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo Station. otaru, Royce chocolate factory town, noboribetsu and hill of the Buddha are very interesting sights to see and the train ride to these sights are included in the ticket. and yeah, I love the little ticket holder they gave :)

Rail pass is easy to use. For reserved seat it easy to book/change timing thru ticketing machine or thru ticketing counter during operating hours. You may obtain the JR timetable from the JR counter.
