What to expect
[Jozankei] Located southwest of Sapporo, Jozankei is known as the “back garden of Sapporo.” It’s about a 1-hour drive from downtown Sapporo and boasts high-quality hot springs and beautiful scenery in all four seasons. In autumn, the stunning autumn leaves attract countless tourists, and in winter, it has Sapporo’s largest ski resort, allowing visitors to enjoy snow activities before soaking in the hot springs. [Mount Yotei Springs Park] Mount Yotei in Hokkaido resembles Mount Fuji, so it is also called Ezo Fuji. Basically, it looks like a smaller version of Mount Fuji and is very majestic. [Showa Shinzan Bear Park] Located near the entrance of the Showa Shinzan Ropeway, the Bear Park is home to over 100 purebred Hokkaido brown bears. Brown bears are large wild mammals in Hokkaido. Visitors can feed the brown bears in the Bear Park, and the bears will stand up and wave to the tourists when they see food, looking adorable and charming. [Lake Toya Observatory] The best place to capture a panoramic view of Lake Toya, offering views of Nakajima Island, Mount Yotei, Showa Shinzan, and more. Lake Toya is famous for its unique volcanic landscape and the world’s largest caldera lake. The sparkling lake surface is especially enchanting against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

He gave clear and interesting explanations about every sightseeing spot, story of Lake Toya, Mt Usu and Mt Showa; and also shared lots of useful local information about Hokkaido, including great restaurant recommendations. The scenery at Jozankei Dam was unexpectedly breathtaking and already had a strong autumn atmosphere. The entire itinerary went smoothly, and our tour guide, Lucy, planned everything wonderfully. It saved us the trouble of figuring out the transportation ourselves, making the trip completely stress-free!
The overlook at Lake Toya offers a magnificent view overlooking the entire lake, and the brown bears at the Bear Ranch are clumsy and adorable. The feeding experience was fun, and our tour guide Lucy was very professional, even introducing the local geography. I learned a lot!

Based on past experience, the best viewing period for Jozankei and Hoheikyo is around late October to early November. Autumn leaves are a natural seasonal landscape, and viewing effects cannot be guaranteed. If the leaves have not yet turned red or have already fallen, your understanding is appreciated, and no refunds or compensation will be provided.
