What to expect
Historically, Japan’s second city to open to the world in the late 1800s, Kobe is a city full of cultural wonders. It boasts many Japanese firsts, including the first mosque, the initial westernized park, and the pioneering carpentry tools museum. While strolling around the city, you can enjoy not only Japanese shrines and temples but also 18th-century European buildings and one of the three Chinatowns in Japan.
Internationally renowned for its beef, Kobe has much more to offer than just culinary delights. It has thrived as the world’s pearl capital for about 80 years, still accounting for approximately 80% of Japan’s pearl processing and distribution volume. Kobe is also home to one of Japan’s most celebrated sake breweries, being the largest producer of sake.
