Great

Stayed with family

Mustard Hotel Shimokitazawa was a fantastic home base for our first few nights in Tokyo. The staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and the location is great for those looking to be away from the crowds — Shimokitazawa is a great neighborhood that can at time be busy during the day but gets quiet in the evenings and overnight. The only thing to be aware of is that the rooms are on the small side, but in terms of value they are spot on. The complimentary breakfast at the cafe was fantastic and is a fantastic value.

Mustard Hotel is a fantastic stay with helpful staff, a great attached cafe and bar and a cool vibe. It's super walkable to Shimokitazawa or to other Tokyo transport links but acts as a nice quiet base! Even with Shimokita Senro Sai happening - a festival for the sunken railway Mustard is built on top of - the room was quiet and cozy. Beds are definitely firm, and the double is probably only just big enough for a couple! But I have stayed here before and likely will stay here again.

Great

If you want to explore shimokitazawa, the location is great. Lots of cute cafes and dining options. Metro stations are nearby. The rooms are small which is to be expected but I found the bathrooms to be extra tiny. And it doesn’t vent very well. The carpets are a little tired looking and the walls a bit banged up. It’s cute that there’s a record player, but honestly it takes up precious table space. The lobby can get very busy when the weather is nice as it’s also a cafe, which might not be what you are looking for after a long day of sightseeing.

This hotel is in an excellent location and is perfect for someone wanting to immerse themselves in Shimokitizawa. The staff are incredibly helpful and polite. The on premise coffee shop and bar were incredible too.

Fantastic

Stayed with friends

The friendliest staff checked us in and helped us amend a taxi booking for the next morning. The lobby is beautifully fitted out and we grabbed coffee, snacks and Mt Fuji water straight up as we’d travelled for two hours. The twin superior room was spacious and the shower the best we had in our whole Japan trip. Perfect location to explore the vintage shopping and enjoy the nearby eateries. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Next time I’d stay longer.

This was an amazing stay for my Japan trip! My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 9 days and 8 nights and it was the perfect spot to stay. I kept getting more confused as I did more research on where to stay in Tokyo and I heavily relied on these reviews to make my decision. I can confirm that all the positive reviews for this hotel are accurate. The hotel is extremely clean and comfortable and the size of the rooms are larger than other accommodations in Tokyo. The staff at the front desk are very kind and helpful. We chose the added breakfast option and really enjoyed the variety of bagels and spreads. You can also choose to just buy items at the cafe as well. The cafe is a popular spot for locals. The added bar was also a nice convenience. The staff notified us when we checked in of the days that someone would come and clean the room and change towels. Not only did they update linens but they even vacuumed the room. The hotel itself is situated on a walking/bike path and is a very short walk to a TON of restaurants and shopping. We spent a lot of nights and afternoons by the hotel simply because there were so many cool places to explore and eat within walking distance. It’s an incredible neighborhood. It’s also a short walk to the train station that will take you anywhere you need to go. Overall this is an excellent location to stay for your first time in Japan and the hotel is very comfortable and clean.

What an amazing place in the middle of Shimo-Kitazawa. We got to hang with some locals with their cute dogs on the patio, drink beers, and had a really nice “local” experience. The relaxed atmosphere was perfect from the hustle and bustle of the larger hotels. We will love to come back and will recommend this place to our family and friends.

Solo stay

The staff at Mustard Hotel were consistently kind, welcoming, and always ready to help. The location is perfect, surrounded by great local shops and amazing food spots. One of my favorite parts was the coffee shop and bar connected to the hotel — I ended up going there almost every day during my stay. Easily one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in Tokyo, and I’ll definitely continue staying at Mustard whenever I visit.
