10/10 experience would absolutely recommend. We did the calligraphy & tea ceremony and it was even better than expected. The entire session is held in a traditional Kyoto style teahouse (very small ceilings duck your head lol) and our host, Mao, was amazing. She took her time with teaching us calligraphy and paid extra attention to making sure that our names were correct which i appreciated. She was also very good with my very tired daughter. The tea ceremony was also an amazing experience as our host is dedicated to the craft. She explained everything in great detail. They are both great at english as well. 10/10 highly recommended
My boyfriend and I booked this class the night before on a whim and it was the best experience we had on our entire 10 day trip to Japan and the best experience we had in Kyoto. everyone was so friendly and welcoming and spoke excellent English. we did not book a private session but ended up being the only people who showed up to their reservation so it just being the two of us made it 10x more special. we got to participate in a traditional tea ceremony and try caligrapty (it is deceptively difficult but so much fun). the townhouse is beautiful and full of so much charm and history, it feels like entering a new world. i would absolutely recommend this experience to everyone, and i do think it is 100% worth it to book the private session if you’re able to
Was a really good experience we had a very large group so it was a little less intimate in the sense that the host didn’t purifier all of our bowls, but she did one big purification for all of us collectively nevertheless it was a very calm and entertaining experience and the vibes were also fun since we didn’t do the calligraphy we were able to go to the top of the home and look out the river. They also have gluten-free options so if that is something that you need, please let them know.
This was the best experience ever! The teachers were so knowledgeable and kind! Both the tea ceremony and the calligraphy session were super informative and fun! We had plenty of time to ask questions and to practice our calligraphy skills. I would definitely recommend this experience and if I come back to Kyoto some time in the future I would genuinely not hesitate and book with them again!
YORIMICHI YA truly moved us. The staff's kindness, warmth, and professionalism were exceptional. They allowed us to experience a moment of true Japanese tradition, starting with a Japanese calligraphy lesson, followed by a guided tour of a traditional house, and then a tea ceremony complete with an audiovisual presentation on the history of matcha. It was an immersive and engaging experience. I was truly happy and grateful to have chosen this experience.
I loved this activity! It was very interesting and relaxing. It is located in an old Japanese house right by the water. The instructors are attentive and very warm. They can also take wonderful photos of you. A huge thank you to them!
This is a very authentic Japanese tea ceremony and calligraphy experience. From the moment I arrived the staff was very friendly and helped me understand what to do. I learned about tea and calligraphy, and was taught incredibly well by each teacher. I had such a fun time for each event! (I highly recommend doing both the tea ceremony and calligraphy. More traditional Japanese experience) I wanted to experience traditional Japanese culture without overwhelming tourism or noisy crowds, this was a pleasant, elegant and peaceful experience that delivered on all my expectations and even exceeded them. If you are in Kyoto or anywhere near Kyoto this is a must add to your itinerary. The staff speak Japanese and English which was so accommodating of them. I am thankful they new the language and could include me in their culture. 10 out of 10 experience, I would love to come back some day!
everything about this experience was amazing! I accidentally booked the calligraphy instead of the tea ceremony. silly me but they were more than happy to swap that around for me. I loved the depth and detail given, would highly recommend to anyone! that you hugely to my guide, I don’t remember his name but he made me feel comfortable and was truly enthusiastic about providing his knowledge and service
I booked the calligraphy class. It was really interesting and not nearly as easy as it looks. But it was a lot of fun, and my instructor (unfortunately, I don't remember her name) was extremely friendly and explained everything down to the smallest detail. It was a great experience that I would recommend to anyone. 🥰
We did the combined tea ceremony and calligraphy, really glad that we did both! The place itself was a beautiful traditional Kyoto town house which we were able to walk through. We were then shown how to make the tea and then got to try ourselves. Not usually a huge fan of matcha but this was delicious and our host was very friendly and talked us through it. The calligraphy was also great fun - we chose two of the more difficult characters but by the end we knew what we were doing under the helpful guidance of our teacher...even if our skills weren't quite perfect yet! Highly recommended experience.
