What to expect
Experience the traditional Japanese art of hand-making paper (Washi). You will use fibers from the bark of the Kozo (mulberry) tree to create your own paper. Under the direct guidance of a master craftsman, you will learn authentic papermaking techniques using a traditional "Sudare" bamboo screen. We will guide you gently through every step, so even beginners can join with confidence.
The experience begins with an introduction to Yoshino Washi and its process. Participants then create handmade paper using fibers from the Kozo.
While the paper drains, you’ll explore the studio, learn about tools, and Kozo preparation. You’ll also visit a nearby field and enjoy views of the Yoshino River.
Finally, your paper is dried, rolled, and packed to take home.
