i love this pass, first day little bit difficult because sometimes no staff near the gate. then we call the staff officer by machine n show the pass through the camera then they will let us enter the gate. 5 days easy to go and i used this pass to go to narita airport. next time i will use this pass again.
This pass is very useful, but the only drawback is that you have to go through a manned gate. Sometimes, other stations don't have staff, or the staff have already left for the day, so you have to use the intercom or just go through without assistance. Otherwise, this pass is extremely convenient for visiting Mount Takao, Enoshima, and Kawagoe. You basically just show the Tokyo Pass screen on your phone. You can depart from Narita Airport Terminal 1, 2, or 3 without any additional payment, and there's no charge when you return to your home country. It's completely free for 5 days from the date of use.
Very convenient. Easy to use. If you are planning to use the subway lines and JR lines on a regular basis, this pass is a must have. Highly recommend.
This pass is very useful for traveling from Narita Airport to the city, and then to Kawagoe, Yokohama, Nikko, Enoshima, Ashikaga Flower Park, and various areas within Tokyo. You'll need to carefully plan your routes and combine it with JR lines (around 300 JPY) to reach many destinations. While it might take a little longer than using a regular transportation card, considering the time spent navigating unfamiliar routes, it doesn't add much extra time overall. Plus, you get to experience different train lines. The main drawback is that when purchasing tickets for multiple people, you can't split the tickets; only the purchaser's phone can display the e-ticket, so everyone needs to travel together. Additionally, you'll need to show the pass to station staff. At unstaffed stations, you'll have to use the intercom to inform the staff how many people are using the Greater Tokyo Pass to enter or exit, which can take a bit more time.
Pros: Incredibly cost-effective for long-distance travel! It covers transfers to/from Narita and Haneda airports, and trips to nearby areas like Mount Takao, Kawagoe, and Enoshima. Just a couple of these trips make it worthwhile, plus you get unlimited subway and bus rides within the city. Cons: Absolutely cannot be used on JR lines; it's fully electronic, so you must use the manned gates, which can mean longer queues at smaller stations or during peak times; group purchases cannot be split, requiring everyone to travel together; and special express trains require an additional fare.
they should come up with a physical ticket for this because no matter how advanced japan is, they are literally so old school sometimes. the physical ticket should have an IC card or something because many bus drivers and some stations are unaware especially during late at night, when not a lot of staff are present in the stations. nonetheless, the value is worth it
When you go inside Tokyo and putside it is quite useful, but in between Jr-Trains are somtimes quicker. But then you just pay for them or just take the other options. I would say it‘s useful when you go greater Distances everyday
I used this pass for my cherry blossom viewing trip. If you frequently use private railways, I highly recommend purchasing it. Although you have to go to a manned counter, which can be a bit inconvenient, it usually takes no more than 5 minutes (if you only visit major stations). However, since not many people use it yet, some new staff at certain stations might not recognize it, so you may need to use keywords or explain it to them.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Value for Exploring Tokyo & Beyond! I had an amazing experience using the Greater Tokyo Pass during my trip. It’s honestly one of the best transportation deals if you plan to explore not just central Tokyo, but also surrounding areas like Saitama, Kanagawa, and Chiba. What I loved most is the flexibility. The pass covers a wide network of private railways, subways, and buses, so I didn’t have to worry about buying separate tickets every time. It made traveling stress-free — just hop on and go! I used it for multiple trips across different lines, including routes that normally add up quickly in cost. After just a few long-distance journeys, the pass basically paid for itself. It’s especially great if you’re doing day trips outside central Tokyo. If you’re planning to move around a lot and want peace of mind while exploring Greater Tokyo, I highly recommend this pass. It saved me money, time, and hassle — totally worth it!
Wide range of use, planned use can effectively reduce transportation costs. First-time users will need a little time to adapt to showing their phone when entering and exiting stations.
