Guide
- The temple originated in the Tang Dynasty and was rebuilt during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. It is named South Putuo Temple because it, like Putuo Mountain's Puji Temple, primarily enshrines the Bodhisattva Guanyin, and is located south of Putuo Mountain.
- Outside the temple are the East and West Mountain Gates, which are very close to each other, so you can enter through either gate. The liberation pond is located in the middle front of the two gates, with turtles inside, and a lotus pond in front.
- The main buildings of South Putuo include the Grand Hall, the Great Compassion Hall, and the Sutra Library (in sequence from the Mountain Gate). On both sides are the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower, with the Charity Building on the left and the Puzhao Building on the right, corresponding to each other, magnificent and spectacular.
- The Grand Hall is dedicated to the Three Saints of the West, the Great Compassion Hall enshrines Guanyin, and the Eighteen Arhats are located in the east and west wings. In the Sutra Library, you can see various treasured Buddhist cultural relics.
- Many inscriptions by famous people are preserved around the temples within South Putuo Temple. Behind the temple, on the cliff wall, there is a huge stone carving of the character "Buddha," which tourists often come to photograph.
