Fantastic 5.0
It's definitely worth going; everyone should try it at least once, especially the sand dunes and Uradome Coast.

First of all, thank you to our tour leader, Hua Hua, and our bus driver for this wonderful trip to Tottori! The bus was comfortable, spacious, and air-conditioned, making the journey very pleasant. Hua Hua explained everything clearly in both English and Chinese, so everyone could follow along. We had a short restroom break on the way there and back. At the dunes, we had about 3 hours of free time. The scenery was breathtaking, but bring an umbrella because there is almost no shade! The museum was amazing, and since the theme changes every year, it’s always worth visiting. My favorite part was picking and eating fresh pears—they were delicious! The atmosphere was so friendly and relaxing. Hua Hua ended the trip with kind words and even sang for us. Thank you for making this an unforgettable experience. I hope your dreams come true!

The JR Kansai Wide Area Pass for five days is very convenient. You can even take the Shinkansen from Osaka to Okayama. It's even more cost-effective when paired with local sightseeing passes. This time, I chose discounts for three facilities in Tottori. The Sand Dune Museum is a must-visit attraction, and the scenery along the Uradome Coast by boat is beautiful (though it was cloudy that day, so the water wasn't as vibrant). For my last stop, I dined at Kan-ichi in Kami Town. The food was surprisingly delicious, and the prices were reasonable with a great atmosphere. Even on a weekday, there were many customers, so a bit of a wait was necessary.

What to know before visiting Tottori

Top experiences and seasonal rhythm

Tottori’s most-booked activities are its Attraction passes, followed by city and regional Tours, with Outdoor & sports activities attracting smaller but notable interest. Demand climbs through spring into the peak in May, then eases after early summer with the quietest bookings in January.

Picks for families, couples and solo travellers

Families will find Attraction passes an easy way to cover several kid-friendly stops without fuss, since they offer the broadest range of entry-level to premium options. Couples often favour Tours for a relaxed, guided way to see highlights and discover local stories. Solo travellers and small groups who want an active or adventurous visit can look to Outdoor & sports activities for higher-end, hands-on experiences.

What travellers from the Philippines should book ahead

Most travellers here retain flexibility—many things can still be arranged a day or two before arrival—but the earliest planners typically book around four weeks out, and that matters most for travel in May. If you’re visiting during the May peak, lock in key tickets and guided Tours earlier than you would in quieter months.

How categories compare on price and suitability

Attraction passes are the easiest way in and also offer the widest spread of options, ranging from entry-level choices to pricier bundled passes, making them suitable for budget-conscious families and curious first-time visitors. Tours sit in the mid-range and are ideal for couples and travellers who prefer a guided experience. Outdoor & sports activities sit at the premium end and suit travellers seeking active, higher-priced adventures rather than basic sightseeing.
