The country ranks second only to Tokyo, Japan

The Philippines was hailed as the second most “Instagrammable” place in the world for 2021, ranking next only to the equally picturesque city of Tokyo, Japan. The list was released by travel website Big 7 Travel and the entries were based on "a scoring system that analyzed the amount of hashtags per destination, survey results from our social audience, and input from our editorial team."

Travel website Big 7 Travel deems a country “Instagrammable” if it is widely photographed and shared on the social media site Instagram. Big 7 Travel noted that chart-topper Tokyo had more than 53 million hashtags on the social media site.

In the list, the Philippines was described as “home to incredible natural wonders like an underground river and tranquil rice terraces in addition to a vibrant culture and history spanning several millennia. From the bustling capital of Manila complete with colorful colonial streets to the absolute oasis of Boracay, the gram opportunities here are endless.”

This honor comes right on the heels of Condé Nast hailing Boracay and El Nido as two of the best beach destinations in the world. The Department of Tourism (DOT), in a Facebook post, celebrated the travel website’s recognition of the Philippines.
