What to expect
Tomita-ya is a 140-year-old traditional Japanese townhouse that was registered as a national tangible cultural property in 1999. The building has two wells, three storehouses, six gardens, three tea ceremonies, and one Noh room. You can see the structure and history of the old Kyomachiya in Japan, and experience wearing a kimono and a tea ceremony.

This was such a lovely experience, steeped in culture and tradition. We got a private tea ceremony and tour of the townhouse, with plenty of time for questions and to learn the history of tea ceremonies.
the girls were great, helped me a lot in getting ready in the kimono. not all could speak in english fluently but it wasn't a problem at all. they let you take as much photos as you like and even offer to take some themselves. the tea ceremony was interesting as well. we got it after a tour of the house.

It was a disappointing experience overall. Disorganized and rushed. It was difficult to communicate with the staff as they don’t really speak English. And definitely overpriced.

What an amazing experience I got to share with friends. Learning this tradition and the history behind it was great.
We bought the Luxury plan at $212 USD each, and there was nothing Luxury about our experience. We were not allowed to chose our own Kimono, the "tea ceremony" was just sitting in a circle and being served sweets and matcha tea. we did not make the sweets or matcha tea ourselves- there was no activity to do. and when we attempted to do a photoshoot around the inside garden area, we were asked to leave because they wanted to accommodate othet customers.I would not reccomend this place.
Such a special and unique experience in a 150 year old twa house. Out lovely guide let pick which kimono i would like and helped us to take pictures. Great experience for anyone interested in tea ceremonies and Japanese etiquette
we have the best experience with these ladies and get to wear the typical kimonos. Also, for those into in the kimono experience and are large as me they will have different types for you. thank you to the beautiful ladies that made a memorable experience for us ❤️
