Gion Kawakami (祇園川上) in Kyoto Gion

it was a bit hard to find but the service is really great and food was amazing! like nothing we have ever had before

Experiencing Japanese culture is a wonderful experience. The food flavors are perfectly balanced, and the tableware is very distinctive. The price is also reasonable.

this was the best meal I had in Japan! I was traveling alone, and many places require a minimum of 2 people, but I was lucky that this place had counter sitting and I got to watch the chef prepare everything right in front of me. the attention to detail, the service, and the food were all impeccable. I will definitely return if I come back to Kyoto! the pictures don’t do justice to the exquisite taste.

Arrived at a little bit earlier than the reservation time, but we were seated quickly. Because we were the only two foreigners, the staff made a special effort to translate each dish into English on their phone, explaining the ingredients and the order in which to eat them. The taste was standard Kaiseki cuisine – refreshing with some unique flavors. The meal lasted for about 1.5 hours, which was perfect as it was our last lunch on the day of departure. The timing was just right, neither rushed nor too slow. Just got hungry a little quickly, and was almost completely digested by the time we arrived at the airport in the evening!

Very delicious, the chef is very professional, the dining environment is quiet and comfortable! They are also very friendly to foreigners and will tell you what these dishes are in Japanese. If you don’t understand Japanese and want to understand Kaiseki, you can prepare translation software first～～

The service staff has a good service attitude, the meals are very exquisite, and the portions are sufficient. It is also suitable for bringing small children, because there are private rooms so you don't have to worry about disturbing others.

Art! The chef was masterful. The presentation of each dish was beautiful. The staff were professional and sweet. My fellow diners were friendly and kind. It was a special evening that I will not soon forget.

There are 5 independent private rooms plus a private room where a chef can cook on site. The food is very fresh and exquisite. A Kaiseki lunch with high cost performance. I will try it again.
