What to expect
Must-do on a Kyushu trip: Experience the Yufuin no Mori train, during the best light of the day + most beautiful scenery (Yufuin to Oita), super Chii!
- Go to Yufuin in the morning, with ample playtime of 150 minutes + leisurely time, avoiding crowded people!
Starting from Hakata in the morning, first immerse yourself in the rhythm of Yufuin town. The streets are unhurried, with coffee shops, dessert shops, and general stores slowly unfolding, and the silhouette of Mount Yufu in the distance. There’s no need to rush to attractions here; just strolling around is very comfortable. Next is the soul of this journey – the special Yufuin no Mori train. Wooden carriages, retro windows, and slowly moving mountain scenery; sitting on the train itself is an experience. It’s not just a simple mode of transport, but a part of the journey. In the afternoon, head to Beppu to visit the most iconic “Umi Jigoku” (Sea Hell). The unrealistically blue hot spring water steams, making it one of Kyushu’s most recognizable hot spring landscapes. The last stop is Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Red bridges, approach paths, omamori (charms), and ume-ga-mochi (plum rice cakes) conclude the day’s itinerary with a very Japanese sense of ritual.
Please note that the Yufuin no Mori train will not operate on the following dates, and will be replaced by the retro red train [Limited Express Yufu]: July 21st-July 24th, August 31st, September 1st-September 4th. In case of force majeure and train cancellation, the train fare will be refunded.
Natural scenery + special train + hot spring culture + shrine pilgrimage The day’s pace is just right, not tiring, and not monotonous.

Reviews
The Yufuin Forest Secret One-Day Tour is an absolute masterpiece of an itinerary, perfectly blending Kyushu's breathtaking nature, nostalgic charm, and otherworldly wonders into a seamless day. Starting in the beautiful mountain-ringed city of Yufu, you are immediately immersed in a scenic retreat where the streets are packed with fantastic local food and endless souvenir shops to explore. The romance of old Japan comes alive the moment you board the vintage green Yufuin No Mori express train to Oita, offering a beautifully nostalgic ride through rolling countryside. The adventure shifts into high gear at the Beppu Hell hot springs, where the striking, surreal contrast of the boiling cobalt-blue and fiery-red thermal waters feels like stepping onto another planet. Finally, wrapping up the day at the historic Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine provides a perfect, deeply peaceful cultural finale to an unforgettable journey. Kevin of JRT, arigato gozaimasu for being a wonderful tour guide!
Of course! Here’s a short and sweet Klook review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Tour with Daisy! We had a fantastic day thanks to our guide Daisy. She was friendly, well-organized, and shared clear instructions in both Chinese and English. Everything ran smoothly, from the meeting point to each attraction. Daisy was always helpful, and she explained everything we needed to know about the place we were touring and made the trip stress‑free and enjoyable. Highly recommend!
We booked a day trip from Fukuoka, Japan because we were traveling with my child and mother. It was worry-free, effort-saving, hassle-free, and cost-effective 🤭. The itinerary was very comfortable. The tour guide, Molly, explained everything very well and was very heartwarming. We also learned a lot of knowledge and about the local culture during the trip. The important thing is that she was actually from the same hometown as me, which I liked even more. The driver, who I heard was the owner of the travel company from Liaoning, was also very helpful. He helped us carry the stroller. My power bank was broken, and he even helped charge my phone. It was a very thoughtful and happy day trip.
This time, our sweet Xinjiang tour guide, Wu Xia, introduced each itinerary in a very soft and gentle voice. She waited for everyone at important turns at every scenic spot, showing great care to ensure no one got lost. The driver drove very steadily, and the tour guide's English was fluent. Klook's tour guide selections have always been very reassuring, and their itinerary planning has consistently been excellent. When choosing tours for international travel, Klook is always my top choice! 👍👍👍
I've never met a tour guide who was so enthusiastic and energetic before. Jimmy was fun, talkative and excellent for entertaining. I was very impressed with this guide. 🤩
This tour is definitely worth signing up for! Yufuin, Lake Kinrin, Yufuin no Mori, Beppu's Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell), and Dazaifu are all worth visiting! We're grateful to our tour guide, Li Jing, for organizing the itinerary and taking care of every group member. Our family, including elderly members, received very thoughtful care! The Japanese driver drove very smoothly and safely!
The Forest Railway is truly beautiful, and the full-day itinerary was very rich and well-paced. However, none of that compared to our guide CoCo's tour. It was absolutely worth every penny.
The trip to Yufuin and experiencing the train ride of Yufuin No Mori was r erally nice! Our guide, Nicole, was very helpful and provided the necessary instructions on how to enjoy our itinerary. I would love to go back during autumn or early spring to the place in full colors!
The weather was fantastic today! There was a large group, but our tour guide, Kevin, took excellent care of everyone. He was humorous and engaging, and he was great at taking photos for us. I highly recommend booking this day tour! 🥳
Our tour guide, Kevin, was enthusiastic and thorough in his explanations of the attractions and his service. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour today! I wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone considering it!
