What to expect
Kyushu One-Day Trip: Forest Train and Hot Spring Pilgrimage Morning: Yufuin Depart from Hakata in the morning and immerse yourself in the leisurely pace of Yufuin town. The streets are unhurried, with the aroma of coffee, sweet desserts, and the warm glow of general stores unfolding one after another. In the distance, the silhouette of Mount Yufu quietly stands guard. Enjoy 150 minutes of free time, avoiding the crowds, and simply strolling around is very comfortable.
Soulful Experience: Yufuin no Mori This is the highlight of the journey – riding the green retro train. With its wooden carriages and large windows, the mountain scenery slowly glides by. It’s not just a mode of transport, but a moving landscape, the most healing part of the trip. Please note that the Yufuin no Mori train will not operate on the following dates and will be replaced by the retro red train [Limited Express Yufu]: June 1st - June 5th, June 22nd - June 26th, July 21st - July 24th, August 31st, September 1st - September 4th.
Afternoon: Beppu Hells of the Sea Arrive in Beppu and visit the most iconic “Umi Jigoku” (Sea Hell). That pool of unreal cobalt blue hot spring water, bubbling with steam, is one of Kyushu’s most photogenic wonders, unforgettable at first sight!
Conclusion: Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine Cross the vermilion Taikobashi bridge, where the aroma of Umegae Mochi drifts along the approach. Pay respects to the god of learning, encounter students praying, buy an omamori (charm), and conclude the day’s itinerary with a sense of Japanese ritual.
Natural Scenery × Special Train × Hot Spring Wonders × Shrine Pilgrimage The pace is just right, not rushed, not tiring, and not monotonous. This is the gentle way to experience Kyushu. ⚠️ Travel Notice August 8th – August 16th is the Obon holiday travel peak in Japan, which may lead to traffic congestion, large crowds, attractions closing early, or itinerary adjustments. Please do not book dinner, flights, or Shinkansen for the same day, and it is recommended to bring a power bank. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
