What to expect
In this experience, held exclusively at night in Kyoto, you can enjoy a set of authentic mochi-pounding and traditional Japanese tea ceremony experiences, which are part of Japan’s traditional culture. In addition to being strictly by reservation only, this is a special experience limited to 20 people per day. After check-in, you will wear a happi coat, and we will explain the history of Japanese mochi-pounding and the tea ceremony in an easy-to-understand short video. Next, you will try authentic mochi-pounding using a traditional mortar (usu) and pestle (kine). For 40 minutes right up until the experience, you will actually pound steamed glutinous rice with the pestle and make mochi from scratch alongside a professional, and you can actually eat and drink the warm, freshly made mochi. Furthermore, you will experience whisking matcha using authentic tea ceremony utensils. We will carefully explain traditional utensils that you rarely get to hold in daily life, such as the tea whisk (chasen), tea scoop (chashaku), and tea caddy (natsume). At the end of the experience, you can take a group photo.
During the experience, there is a dedicated photography staff, so even those with small children can concentrate and enjoy the experience. The photos and videos taken will be sent to you by email for free at a later date.
We deliver a cultural experience that will become your most special memory of your trip to Japan. MOCHI & MATCHA EXPERIENCE KYOTO
