Sumo experience in Tokyo Step into the ring and sumo meal
・Train on the legendary dohyō where four Yokozuna and numerous top-division wrestlers once trained. ・Experience sumo practice in the same ring where real Yokozuna honed their skills. ・Enjoy the daily meals of sumo wrestlers together with a former top-division wrestler. ・Take commemorative photos with the wrestlers (smartphones welcome; staff can assist with taking photos).
What to expect
Asahifuji Sumo Dojo (Training & Meal Experience) Step inside the traditional dojo of the 63rd Yokozuna, Asahifuji, who trained his disciples here for 33 years. This authentic arena has produced four Yokozuna and over ten sekitori. Join real sumo wrestlers for hands-on training and try stepping onto the dohyō yourself.
Sumo has a 1,500-year history, and only about 70 wrestlers out of 1,000 reach sekitori rank—becoming a Yokozuna is even rarer. This experience lets you interact closely with wrestlers trained by a true legend.
After practice, enjoy chanko nabe, the hearty hot pot that fuels sumo wrestlers. A one-of-a-kind cultural experience available only here.

Good to know
・The price shown is per person. ・If many guests wish to challenge the former sumo wrestler, one representative may be selected from each group, or participants may be chosen by lottery.
Reviews
I've always followed sumo matches, but this was my first time experiencing sumo firsthand. It was incredibly meaningful and fun to actually experience the training and sparring of sumo wrestlers at a dojo founded by former Yokozuna Asahifuji Masaya. It was also very tiring, and I gained a deep appreciation for the rigorous and dedicated training of sumo wrestlers. After practice, we refueled with authentic chanko nabe (sumo stew), pork cutlets, tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), and pasta, which were all delicious (though the soup was a bit salty). This several-hour authentic sumo experience is an absolute must for anyone who loves sumo or Japanese culture!
A spectacular and great experience. You not only got a fantastic training session but also a real insight into sumo culture. A must-do in Tokyo.
Amazing traditional and authentic Sumo experience in Tokyo. We really enjoyed learning about the history, training practices and all round world of Sumo. Very excited to meet a grand sumo master and all the team were so helpful and knowledgeable!
We had an absolutely incredible experience during this sumo activity in Tokyo. It was both highly informative and fascinating, and truly impressive to meet real sumo wrestlers in person — such a rare and memorable moment! The welcome was warm and the atmosphere felt very authentic. The food was also absolutely delicious, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We are very grateful to have had the chance to discover this world up close, especially in the dojo of a sumo champion. A unique experience that we highly recommend! Thank you so much !
One of most amazing things we did in Tokyo. What an experience! It was very entertaining. We got to do some sumo training exercises and 'fight' the former professional sumo wrestlers. Everyone was welcoming and accommodating. The food was delicious. Would definitely recommend this activity to friends and family.
“1000% excellent!!” – From my 8-year-old son. We had a truly invaluable experience, getting to step onto an actual sumo ring, once used for training by a sumo stable, and learning sumo! Especially for women, standing on a real sumo ring and experiencing the atmosphere of a training session is a rare opportunity. The facility itself, adorned with flowers and plants from the entrance, has a calm ambiance, yet it's far from stiff; everyone greeted us with smiles throughout our visit. The post-training interaction was also enjoyable, and everyone was genuinely friendly, answering all our questions. Both my son and I were extremely satisfied with our day. We would definitely love to participate again.
One of the best experiences we had in Japan! The Sumo experience is amazing, the staff and the athletes are amazing people, and the food was delicious. Just do it!
We had a great experience, and the customer service was really good. We really appreciate the service they provided, and we had a lot of fun. People speak English and treat us very well. We highly recommend this service.
we did not thoroughly read and were not aware this is a hands on experience. if you want a hand on experience this is absolutely what you should book. It was a little challenging to find.
This was the best hands-on, interactive sumo experience! Our host Yarden met us at the front door on time and was a super interesting host, an aspiring professional sumo from Israel. The dojo had all the systems perfectly worked out: we went smoothly into the basement to change into our wrestling clothes, up to the wrestling ring where we did our lessons with lots of help taking photographs, washed up and changed back, and then upstairs for a traditional chanko nabe lunch prepared in-house. The two sumo coaches Kiryu and Terutsuyoshi were so amazing and fun as they taught us how to do the exercises and spar with them. Kiryu was so sweet and let my two rowdy kids play with him while we parents ate lunch and chatted with Yarden. His lifelong dream to become a sumo is inspiring, and we hope that the sumo federation allows him to become a professional!!!
