What to expect
Nestled between the mountains and grasslands on the southern slopes of Mount Aso, this route gently weaves together mysterious beliefs, highland scenery, and hot spring healing, allowing you to gradually step into the tranquil and profound landscapes of Kyushu 🌿.
- The journey begins at Kamishikimikumanoimasu Shrine. Passing through the torii gate and ascending the hundred stone steps, moss-covered stone lanterns and towering cedar trees isolate the outside world, leaving only the light and shadows of the forest and the sound of footsteps in the air. The towering Ukeidoiwa rock behind the shrine stands majestically, with a cave in the center of the massive natural rock wall, said to sever bad luck and overcome obstacles ⛰️. There are no crowds here, only the solemnity and mystery unique to the depths of the mountains, making people unconsciously slow their breathing.
- Afterward, we arrive at Aso Bou no Sato Kugino in the grasslands of South Aso. The view suddenly opens up, with the five peaks of Mount Aso undulating in the distance, and the grassland and volcanic terrain interweaving to form the most representative Aso scenery 📸. Freshly delivered agricultural products, sweets made with Aso milk, and simple yet satisfying local cuisine allow you to slowly replenish your energy in the highland breeze and rediscover the rhythm of travel ☕.
- The journey concludes at Kurokawa Onsen, surrounded by mountains. Retro and understated inns are built along the stream, with hot spring steam swirling through the forest, making the entire hot spring village seem to float in the valley ♨️. Whether you choose to soak in an open-air hot spring, stroll through the hot spring town, soak your feet in a foot bath, or sample sweets, you can feel the unique tranquility and healing of this place.
* This is a route that does not pursue speed, from the shrine in the mountains, the open volcanic grasslands, to the tranquil ending in the hot spring village. Each stop allows you to walk slowly, see slowly, and feel the nature and culture of Aso with your feet and senses ✨.

Reviews
The one-day tour from Kumamoto was very pleasant, and we were part of a small group of 7 people. The scenery at Kamishikimi Kumano-imasu Shrine was beautiful, the views in Kugino were expansive, and Kurokawa Onsen was also impressive; two hours there felt just right. Our tour guide, Ge Ning, was very friendly, and the driver was also thoughtful, dropping off and picking up passengers at convenient locations.
Overall it was a great experience despite the rainy weather! Would recommend for sure!
What a comfortable journey! We are very grateful to Teacher Xiao Tiejun for leading us on this trip. He was incredibly warm and hospitable, providing detailed introductions to the local culture, customs, and unique specialties of each place. We could truly feel his professionalism and enthusiasm. After learning that we didn't speak Japanese, he proactively helped us communicate with the hotel! We wish him and his team all the best!
Tie Jun is not just a driver, but also a professional tour guide! We are very grateful for his hard work, detailed explanations, and guidance at every attraction! Thank you!
