What to expect
Traditional Lion head crafting workshop is one of the activity chain, which belonged to CONICAL HAT-WORKSHOP GROUP. The Group specialize in Vietnamese traditional crafting workhops.
This cultural workshop takes you on a journey to explore the history and significance of lion dance art in Vietnam - a tradition closely associated with Tet holidays, grand openings, and important events, conveying messages of dispelling evil spirits, seeking good luck, peace, and prosperity. The highlight of the experience is the hands-on activity of decorating the lion's head, where each person creates a work of art with their own personal touch and special spiritual; like "breathe life" into it, expressing wishes for good fortune and peace – true to the spirit that lion dance has preserved for generations.

We came to this workshop with our family not knowing what to expect, and it ended up being one of the most delightful experiences of our trip. We painted and decorated our own Lionhead papier-mâché masks while learning about the history of the Lionhead tradition and how it came to Vietnam. The artists shared so much knowledge and context, which made the experience feel meaningful, not just creative. What really stood out was their generosity and heart. They were patient, encouraging, and clearly passionate about sharing their craft. They made everyone feel welcome and capable, whether you were artistic or just there to have fun. And you leave with the cutest memorabilia — your own handmade Lionhead to take home. If you’re anywhere nearby, don’t miss this beautiful, creative experience.
hosts were very gracious. activity started on time and all required material was provided. they also have us free gifts. loved the experience. must do activity if you are in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh)
What a great workshop! My brother requested I bring him "A lionhead" from a lion dancer character in a computer game he plays. When I saw this I really liked the idea to make a lion head to take home instead of trying to find one that looked similar. In the beginning of the workshop is a short introduction to lion dancing and the artisan who is teaching the workshop. I had a great time making it and they helped me customize it to fit the inspiration picture. My booking was rather last minute, but they could accommodate me. Would recommend!
We utilized the cafe's third floor to learn about the culture and history of lion dances and festivals through a slideshow, followed by a lion head painting workshop directly from an artisan! The painting is basically free-form, but there are various templates and examples available, and they provide careful support, so you can create your own without any worries. You can also watch the artisan skillfully finish the work right in front of you, which felt like watching the magic of craftsmanship. The cafe drinks were also very delicious, and everyone was very friendly and kind, so I was able to relax and enjoy the workshop! You can have the lion head you made wrapped on the spot and take it home with you, making it a great travel memory. After the workshop, they send you many photos of the production process and commemorative photos, so I think even those who participate alone will have a fulfilling workshop! Your own little piece of art, it's sure to be a hot topic from now on!
The workshop was very relaxing. I learned a lot about the history of dragons and then was able to be creative myself. I was looked after by a super team who were always there to help me. At the end, of course, I was allowed to take my finished dragon head with me and even got a small gift. A great activity for anyone who wants to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city for a few hours.
I loved the workshop! it’s just perfect for people who love art + want to bring home a traditional piece of Vietnamese history and culture with them. I am sure it would be interesting for both families and friends/couples.
Create your own unique lion dance costume at a stylish cafe with a distinctly Vietnamese atmosphere! They teach you very carefully, making for a fun and special experience! Thank you!
