Awesome tour. the tunnel was short but the guide had tons of knowledge and great humor. very interesting geology and information about the tunnel. only letdown was no souvenir magnets to buy which I like to collect of each place I go. still great!
Tour guide is very experienced and gives a very good narrative/explanation about the cave itself. there will be a moment when all lights are off and you’ll be in complete pitch darkness. actual “tour” is actually only 30 minutes. the remaining time is left for you to explore the cave and take photos on your own. there are installed lights within the cave, so it isn’t naturally as colourful as what Google images might depict. supposedly the cave is also available for rental for wedding celebrations!
The itinerary was well-planned and there was plenty of time. Tour guide: Clear instructions and explanations, with a wealth of knowledge. Attractions along the way: The natural volcanic tunnel formation was very beautiful, and the all-black experience was worth participating in.
A 1.3-kilometer-long lava tunnel was formed 5,200 years ago and is very wide inside. Before the tour starts, the tour guide will ask participants to put on helmets and flashlights. If necessary, they can take hiking poles. They are fully equipped. The open part of the tunnel is not very long, and the entire tunnel is not covered. There are railings and iron plates to facilitate tourists to visit. Easy to walk, but has achieved the punching effect.
It was very interesting to walk inside the tunnel where lava used to flow through it. At early spring, we were lucky to see the ice pillars inside the cave that formed over winter.
the tour was insightful and the guide was friendly which made the tour an enjoyable one
The tour is over hyped with very little to offer. The guide only tried to spend time but she had hardly anything to offer. The quality of bus interior was very poor and the attitude of driver was rude.
Experiencing the cave with the lights off, where you can't see your hand in front of your face, and quietly listening to the sound of dripping water, is quite a unique experience.
There are many lava tunnels in Iceland that tourists can visit. This one is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Reykjavik. If you choose to drive there, there is free parking, which is also very convenient. A 1.3-kilometer-long lava tunnel was formed 5,200 years ago and is very wide inside.
