Kyoto: Traditional Tea Ceremony with Matcha and Sweets in Gion

I had an absolutely wonderful experience today. I learned so much about the history of matcha, which was unexpected. The hosts were friendly and spoke great English. I will definitely visit them again on my next trip to Kyoto.

10/10 experience with our tea master Mai who gave us such a vast amount of information throughout the ceremony. She was also patient and helpful when assisting us to make our own matcha tea. The sweets provided were also phenomenal and we went on to purchase some from the store recommended during the ceremony. Incredible experience.

We booked multiple workshop/activities in Kyoto but this was my favorite! The start of the session started with a lesson on tea and tea ceremony and then we were able to watch the traditional ceremony movements. and finally we were able to be hands on with making our own matcha tea. we were shown and given directions as well as needed. we were taught the proper way and etiquette of drinking tea. my husband who has never liked matcha liked the taste and even bought some matcha powder to make more at home now!

Excellent tea ceremony experience in Gion. I would categorize this as a thorough intro to matcha tea and Japanese ceremony (without needing to wardrobe into a kimono). The session is approx 50-60 minutes, shares history, facts and proper etiquette for preparing and chasen whisking matcha tea. our hosts were warm, professional, calm and light hearted. I highly recommend. guests will be seated on a comfortable rectangular backless wooden stool around an elevated square tatami mat. All seats provide an excellent view of the host.

Highly recommend this experience of the tea ceremony! It was very insightful and so inspirational. My family of six has discovered a a new love and admiration for green tea, now we will all be having matcha! Yuko was an amazing teacher, she taught us so much about the history of tea, their ceremonies and how to correctly prepare a matcha. Also, got superb recommendations of where to purchase matcha and temples to visit!

The tea ceremony was really enjoyable, and it was very interesting to see how this culture is lived. Instructor: Our Tea Master, Kenta-san, was very friendly and explained all the important details to us. He also took the time to answer further questions. Experience: The value for money was also excellent! Thank you for the wonderful experience!

The space was carefully thought of and prepared for the tea ceremony. The host was welcoming and the Tea master - Ruo was knowledgeble (12 years as a tea master). She was able to explain history, process, Japanese words and little details about the dessert and etc. It was such a harmonious experience, and it certainly made me appreciate the concept more. I was glad it was done in a small group setting that allowed for w more peaceful experience. They were courteous to remind us we can take pictures but not videos, but the whole ceremony really requires for you to be mindful and present so we didnt take a lot of photos. They allowed us to take photos with Ruo, after. My friend and I truly enjoyed this experience and would not hesitate to book with them again. Thank you to the hosts!

Very informative and lovely host. Thank you for a great time, we really enjoyed learning about Japanese tea culture.

The Tea Master vividly and clearly explained the fascinating history of Matcha and the tea ceremony. It was very pleasant to listen to her, and she attentively engaged with each person. I can only recommend this event! It's a wonderful moment to unwind and take the time to learn something new, in community with others.

We had a wonderful, intimate tea ceremony with Yuko. Her warm hospitality and gentle guidance made the experience truly special. A beautiful and memorable way to enjoy this tradition—highly recommended!
