Registration For The Vaccine Now Open
The first batch of COVID-19 vaccines have finally reached the shores of Malaysia along with the launch of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme, hopefully bringing about the light behind the tunnel after a challenging year of battle against the global pandemic. The vaccination programme in Malaysia will be rolled out in three phases:
Phase | Period | Recipients |
---|---|---|
Phase 1 | 26 Feb - April 2021 | Frontliners (healthcare workers, PDRM, RELA, BOMBA etc) | 500,000 people |
Phase 2 | April - August 2021 | High-risk groups (senior citizens aged 60 and above, individuals with chronic illnesses, OKU) | 9.4 million people |
Phase 3 | May - Feb 2022 | Adults aged 18 and above | 13.7 million people or more |
Over 600 Vaccination Administration Centres (VACs) have been identified across the country, and additional temporary centres will also be set up at community halls, stadiums, universities, and other appropriate facilities based on need.
While most Malaysians will not be eligible for vaccination in Phase 1, registration has already opened up and you can do so within minutes on the MySejahtera App. After registering your consent, you’ll be notified once the next phase of vaccination begins.
How To Sign Up For The Vaccine Via MySejahtera
1. The section for vaccine registration is now available on the MySejahtera app - make sure your app is updated to the latest version on the App Store or Google Play. While it was launched on iOS first, it is now also available for Android users!
2. Once you've updated your app, relaunch the MySejahtera app and you should be able to see a ‘COVID-19 Vaccination’ button on the home screen. Tap on the button and make sure your personal details (name, IC, phone number) are accurate.
3. Once your details are verified, you’ll be led to this frame. Click on the ‘click here’ link to complete your registration by filling up a form with 4 simple yes/no questions. Once you’ve done so, you’ll be notified when the next phase of vaccination begins (details about the vaccination centre and dates assigned will be sent to you via the MySejahtera App, phone call, or text).
4 Other Ways To Register For Your Vaccine
While signing up via the MySejahtera is the easiest and fastest way, you can also register your consent via other platforms. Here are 4 other ways you can register for the vaccine:
- COVID-19 JKJAV website: vaksincovid.gov.my (click "register now" to complete your registration - you'll receive your confirmation within 24 hours if your registration goes through successfully)
- Ring up the registration hotline: 1800-888-828 (you will be required to provide your personal details such as name, phone number and email address)
- Manual registration at hospitals and clinics
- Door-to-door registration (an initiative to reach out to senior citizens in rural areas)
Guide To The Vaccination Process
Is The COVID-19 Vaccine Compulsory?
No, it is not. You will not be forced to take the shots if you don’t want to, although it is highly-encouraged in order to help Malaysia achieve herd immunity. If you're concerned about the safety or effectiveness of the vaccine, we encourage you to do more research and reading in order to make a more informed decision once the vaccines are available!
