Perutusan Khas Perdana Menteri: 6 October 2020
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin addressed Malaysians in a special announcement at 6PM today (6 October 2020). With 691 new cases and 4 deaths reported today, Malaysia has hit yet another new high in daily cases, and it's normal to feel anxious as we struggle with the uncertainty of our current situation.
However, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urged Malaysians to keep calm and focus on flattening the curve by playing our own part the best we can - as mentioned by him, we have succeeded in flattening the curve before, and he is confident we can do it again.
In case you missed the announcement, here are some important pointers mentioned to keep you updated on the situation:
1. There will not be a nationwide lockdown, and sufficient notice will be given before any important decisions are made.
2. The COVID-19 numbers has been on an increase over the past few days, but they are mostly from testings done on prisoners in Sabah and Kedah, except for small numbers that were spread amongst local communities.
3. Malaysia is now better prepared in terms of experience and manpower to handle COVID-19, and we have sufficient facilities and equipment put in place to tackle the increase in cases.
4. Malaysians are urged to not panic, avoid making your own conclusions, and steer away from sharing fake news.
5. Targeted Enhanced MCO will be enforced in locations where high number of cases were reported, and SOPs will be tightened nationwide to flatten the curve.
6. Schools in Red Zones such as Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu, Semporna, and Penampang will be closed for the time being. Inter-district travel within Sabah has also been banned.
7. People in Sabah will be prohibited from travelling to Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, and Labuan starting 12.01AM 12th October to 25 October 2020. (Side Note: the Selangor state government is offering free testing for Selangor residents that have travelled to Sabah between 20 - 26 Sept).
8. Events involving crowds such as weddings, conferences, and large-scale gatherings are strongly discouraged.
Stay safe everyone!
