Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has addressed the nation in yet another perutusan khas earlier at 2PM, announcing that the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) will be further extended and is now scheduled to end a month from now on the 9th of June 2020.
    #stayhome
The new extension was decided upon discussion with the Health Ministry and National Security Council as an effort to further contain the spread of the Covid-19.

Important things to note about the CMCO extension

    CMCO Extension
    1. Businesses can continue operating but will have to adhere to the list of SOP put in place by the government including measures to ensure social distancing and proper sanitation procedures. According to the Prime Minister, over 6 million workers have returned to work since the CMCO was announced on the 4th of May 2020 and the number is expected to increase as more and more businesses reopen in the next few weeks.
    2. Schools and education institutions will remain closed.
    3. Gatherings and sports involving large groups of people as well as social and religious activities should be avoided at all costs (e.g: open houses, kenduris, buka puasa events, Ramadhan bazaars). For more information, read our previous piece on the CMCO SOP here.
    4. Tourists will not be allowed entry to Malaysia and Malaysians returning from overseas will have to be quarantined for 14 days.
    5. Interstate travel is still strictly prohibited, meaning that Malaysians will not be permitted to balik kampung for the upcoming festive seasons including Hari Raya, Kaamatan and, Hari Gawai. Despite this travel restriction, the Prime Minister has emphasised that this does not mean celebrations cannot go on. House visitings with not more than 20 people can still be held (but with extra precautions taken, please!). Those who would like to apply for an interstate travel permit (for work purposes) can do so on the Gerak Malaysia app or at the police station.
    6. Married couples residing in different states due to work will be given an exception to meet each other/their family despite the interstate travel ban, but will have to apply for a permit as per the usual procedure.
    7. Several districts throughout Malaysia have been declared red zones, and those residing in these areas are urged to take extra precautions as they go along their daily lives. Malaysians are encouraged to still #stayhome and not head out unless necessary. Those living in green zones should also maintain cautious at all times. Refer to the list of red zones in Malaysia here.
    8. The SOP for congregational prayers such as Friday and Hari Raya prayers is still being ironed out and will be announced once confirmations are made. Similarly for Malaysians of other religions, guidelines for those who wish to visit their respective houses of worship will also be announced.
