Nestled in the Sabak Bernam district of Selangor, Sekinchan is a tranquil fishing village located an easy 1.5-hour drive from KL. Known for its fresh seafood, lush paddy fields, and laid-back vibe, it's no surprise that Sekinchan has cemented its position as a popular day trip destination for urban Malaysians looking to escape the concrete jungle for a bit. Start planning a day trip to Sekinchan with your friends or family with this visit guide!

    Best Time To Visit Sekinchan

It's important to plan your Sekinchan trip carefully or you may be disappointed to be greeted by bare, harvested fields instead of lush green ones. The best months to visit Sekinchan for green fields are in the months of March, April, September, and October when the weather is fine and the fields are endless stretches of green!

    How To Get Here?

Located 100 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur, the easiest and quickest way to get to Sekinchan is by car. You can drive here on your own (enjoy up to 45% off when you rent a car on Klook!) or head over on a guided day trip. The town is also reachable via bus, but the journey takes up to 4 hours and includes transfers in between.

While Sekinchan isn't a huge fishing village, there's plenty to see, do, and eat around here if you're planning a day trip. Here are some of our recommended things to eat, see, and do in Sekinchan!

    1. Sekinchan Paddy Fields

A visit to Sekinchan isn't complete without marvelling at its beautiful stretches of rice paddies that make up the iconic landscape of the quaint town. Watch the picturesque green fields form a picture-perfect scenery with the clear blue sky and have your camera on standby to get that shot for the 'gram!

    2. Bagan Fishing Village

Sekinchan is affectionately known as "the land of fish and rice". Besides visiting the beautiful paddy fields, be sure to also make time to bask in the tranquil vibe by the jetty. We'd recommend popping by Bagan, the main fishing village in Sekinchan located along the river in the southwest of the town. Depending on the time of your visit, it may be a quiet and calm place when all the boats are out in the ocean, or a busy location full of fishermen unloading their catch of the day. Check out the stores and seafood market in Bagan to get some fresh seafood or local snacks as a souvenir!

    3. Pantai Redang Beach

While Pantai Redang obviously isn't the most beautiful beach in Malaysia, it's still a pretty nice place to have a relaxing time at. Sink your toes into the soft sand, fly a kite, or just sit down and enjoy the warm sunshine and sea breeze! There are some seafood restaurants and other stalls in the vicinity of Pantai Redang where you can get yourself a satisfying meal or snack before heading over for an after-meal stroll.

    4. Sekinchan Wishing Tree

The Sekinchan Wishing Tree is a hotspot in the Pantai Redang area. The branches of this old wishing tree are weighed down by long red ribbons bearing coins and the wishes of thousands of people. You can make a donation at the nearby temple to get yourself a red ribbon, write your wishes on it and throw it up to the tree. It is said that the higher the ribbon dangles from the tree, the higher the chance that your wishes will come true!

    5. The Paddy Gallery

For those who wish to have a more educational insight into the paddies of Sekinchan, the Sekinchan Paddy Gallery is a gem worth adding to your itinerary. The gallery is located within the Sekinchan Rice Mill Factory and provides visitors with a sneak peek into the process of paddy plantation and processing. Book a Sekinchan and Kuala Selangor day tour on Klook that comes inclusive of admission tickets to the paddy factory and gallery!

    6. Mango King

Located near the factory, Mango King is known for its huge mangoes that are apparently as huge as a person's forearm! Pop by for a refreshing ice-cold mango smoothie that will quench your thirst with a few sips and tapao some fresh fruit (locally-grown mangoes, guavas, jackfruits, and more) for your drive home. You can also get yummy prawn crackers and rojak here!

    6. N16 Cafe

This cute bus cafe went viral a while back and has become a hot attraction in Sekinchan! N16 Cafe is a refurbished bus cafe elevated on a container in the middle of the paddy fields. Rest your legs and escape the heat (despite its rustic exterior, the cafe is air-conditioned and pretty cosy on the inside!) by popping by for a cup of coffee, a plate of pasta, or a slice of cake and enjoy your meal while overlooking the green fields.

    7. Ah Ma House

Feel a wave of nostalgia overcome you as you step into the homely Ah Ma House! Living up to its name, Ah Ma House gives off a charming 'grandmother's home' vibe and is filled with traditional snacks (that will bring you down the memory lane of your childhood), old toys, and charming antiques. Ah Ma House is actually a little bakery shop where you can get yourself some old-school kuih kapit (egg waffle), ice sticks, as well as some other local snacks, sweets, and dessert.

    8. Padi Box

The vibrant Padi Box is Sekinchan's famous container hotel constructed out of recycled freight containers! This eco-friendly hotel is fun, cosy, and unique, promising a comfortable stay if you're planning to spend a night in Sekinchan. The family-friendly hotel offers rooms that can fit up to groups of 6, if you're travelling with a significant other, we'd recommend booking a 2-person room with a private balcony where you can wake up to picturesque views of the paddy fields!

    9. Plan A Stopover At Kuala Selangor

Many people who plan a trip to Sekinchan also make time for a stopover at Kuala Selangor. Kuala Selangor is located just 30 minutes from Sekinchan and is known for a couple of iconic sights that will delight both history buffs and nature lovers. You can visit cheeky silvered leaf monkeys at Melawati Hill, go on a nature walk through Kuala Selangor Nature Park, and cruise through Sungai Selangor in search of glowing fireflies at dusk. #KlookTip: Book a day tour on Klook that covers both Sekinchan and a visit to the popular Kuala Selangor Sky Mirror!
