Purchasing admission tickets online for the MOA Museum of Art is quick, provides a QR code for easy entry, and allows you to skip the line.
On the afternoon of February 20th, I arrived at Atami Station and took a taxi directly to the museum with my luggage. The fare was 900 yen. Since it was a last-minute decision, I bought tickets online immediately, which was super convenient. The museum has lockers available for a refund, but my suitcase was too large, so I had to store it directly at the information desk. A tip: use the museum's Wi-Fi, otherwise, cell phone reception inside the building is very poor and difficult to get. Online ticket purchase is convenient; you just scan the QR code at the entrance. While there aren't many treasures, the Golden Tea Room and the Red and White Plum Blossom folding screens, among other national treasures, are definitely worth seeing. A pleasant surprise was the special exhibition by the master of bamboo weaving – it was excellent. The gift shop has exquisite items and is worth a quick browse. Basically, the entire museum building and its scenery are exhibits in themselves. I recommend spending 1.5 to 2 hours there, and you can relax at the museum's cafe. There's a shuttle bus to Atami Station right outside the entrance, with frequent services. A schedule is available at the entrance, and buses run until after closing, so there's no need to worry about being stranded on the mountain. When leaving, I asked the service desk attendant to help call a taxi to my hotel, and she was very kind and patient. I'm very grateful.
Easy to redeem! I recommend going in right when it opens so you can take photos of the kaleidoscope ceiling with fewer people. My large luggage was too big for the lockers, but I was able to ask the front desk to store it for me directly! There was no extra charge. On the way back, you can also take the shuttle bus to Atami Station for ¥200.
The spacious building housed numerous exhibits, including Japanese artworks, allowing for a long and enjoyable visit. The views of the scenery outside were excellent, and I felt the building itself was a work of art.
I had been curious about this place after seeing it on social media. It was enjoyable to appreciate artworks ranging from the Heian period to modern times. The facility was also very clean, and I was extremely satisfied.
The art museum is very large and magnificent, and it also has beautiful gardens. The entire experience is very pleasant, especially with its seven escalators and a kaleidoscope ceiling.
The museum itself is situated on a hill overlooking the coastline, offering expansive views that are especially beautiful on a clear day. Inside, you can also enjoy various art exhibits. Furthermore, it's conveniently accessible by direct bus from Atami Station, making it a recommended stop if you're visiting Atami.
It's a beautiful art museum with stunning views. However, there's no public transportation, so it felt like a hike to get there. It's definitely worth a visit!
Although it's a compact museum, you can see National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties here. The views are also lovely.
nice place to visit, easy excess by bus infront of atami station
