What an amazing Tour!! Amy (Happy Usagi/ Bunny) made it extra special! She had arranged little snacks and a small gift. she also offered help when she saw help was needed or assistance. She is very friendly, proactive and such a great guide. She made sure we saw everything and shared her tips and tricks to every spot we went to. The Tour was comfortable and quiet relaxing for such a fun and packed day! I had my 2 daughters with me (8 years old and 13 years old), they had a great time the WHOLE DAY!! The tour was set in an easy pace but it was so action packed. Please if u want a stress free day with lots of things to do, Please pick Amy as your guide. Her English is amazing! Her personality is so cute. I will definitely reach out to her personally on our next Trip back.

Good tour cover main attractions that are just enough and not too tiring. Also suitable for old people, kids. There is not much walking so it’s a good break from some tiring days taking train around. Tour guide Zoey is very accommodating and helpful. The drive was smooth.

Fantastic 5.0
The tour guide spoke very gently and patiently, and was also very dedicated to resolving any issues we had. The only minor drawback was that the itinerary was a bit tight. We happened to go on a weekend, plus it was a special holiday in Japan, so there were huge crowds and long queues for everything. This meant we didn't have enough time to eat proper meals and had to grab quick snacks, which felt a bit rushed. However, the sea and Amanohashidate were truly beautiful. The final seagull feeding part was a little disappointing; the lower deck of the boat was already full, so we had to go to the upper deck and stand in the sun to feed the seagulls. But there seemed to be very few seagulls, and we ended up eating most of the shrimp crackers ourselves. We were lucky if we fed even one. I'm not sure if it was because there were so many people that the seagulls were already full. For this kind of trip, it would definitely be better to go on a weekday next time to avoid the crowds and long waits for everything.🥺🥺

On September 24th, we took a tour of Kyoto guided by MIKA, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The instructions for the meeting point and updates upon arriving in Kyoto were seamless, allowing us on-time tour departure without any delays. During the journey, we were deeply moved by our guide's detailed explanations and her passionate dedication in carefully checking whether everyone wanted to ride the amusement park lift and the sightseeing boat upon arrival. The tour itinerary and optional add-ons (the lift up to Amanohashidate Amusement Park and the Ine Bay sightseeing boat) were not excessive; they were essential components for an efficient tour, which made purchasing the full package feel very rewarding and worthwhile. The meal during the tour was also not bad in terms of saving time. Given the rather tight schedule, we think it was much better to grab a quick bite rather than searching for a restaurant and waiting in line, allowing us to spend ample time at the observation deck. Originally, we planned to rent a car and leave Kyoto early in the morning, but considering the difficulty of driving (unlike Korea, regional roads feature strict two-lane round-trip highway sections, speed limits, and strict railroad crossings) and driving in an unfamiliar area for the first time, choosing this tour over a self-drive rental trip was definitely the better choice. Based on this wonderful tour experience, we feel confident that next time we can comfortably travel to Amanohashidate and Ine on our own using a rental car. Thanks to our guide MIKA, who enthusiastically responded to all our questions, helped with souvenirs, and recommended great photo spots throughout the tour, it became a truly memorable experience. Although the physical distance and road conditions made for a tight schedule, the tour itinerary was exceptionally well-organized and fulfilling.

Maggie has been an excellent tour guide! This was my first time booking a group tour and I was hesitant at first but I’m glad I did. The tour was paced well, I did not feel rushed and I honestly felt that the alloted time for each location was sufficient enough to get a feel and have fun on each places. We were in Ine Bay from 1015H-1055H, which includes the boat ride. A tip that I would give if you’re not into feeding seagulls is to skip the boat ride and just explore the Ine bay/ boathouses by foot. Next stop was Amanohashidate and we were there for 2hrs, then last stop was the Miyama thatched village which was phenomenal. Make sure to try their milk!! 🫶🏼

What an awesome experience! We are a group of 3 joined in with around 20-ish other people in the same bus. Our driver (Lyn), he was very friendly and helpful, always ensuring our experience to be pleasant and safe till the end. The itinerary is what I can give them the most props for. It's very neatly structured and packed ensuring that we can get to all destinations in the Amanohashidate area. Very recommended to anyone trying to experience Amanohashidate and Ine Funaya from Osaka. Money well spent!

What to know about Funaya

Ine Fishing Village, also known as Ine no Funaya, is a coastal community in northern Kyoto Prefecture where traditional wooden boathouses line the sheltered waters of Ine Bay. These distinctive funaya were designed with space for boats and fishing equipment at water level, reflecting generations of life shaped by the sea. The historic waterfront is recognised as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. A boat cruise offers striking views of the funaya from the bay, while the hillside viewpoint at Funaya no Sato Ine reveals the curve of the shoreline. Visitors can stroll through the village, enjoy local seafood and learn about fishing traditions on a guided tour. Combined with nearby Amanohashidate, Ine offers a memorable look at a quieter, maritime side of Kyoto.

Things to Do in Ine Fishing Village (Ine no Funaya)

1. Explore the historic funaya boathouses

Walk through the waterfront lanes to admire Ine's wooden funaya, traditionally used to shelter fishing boats and store equipment at water level. The architecture reflects a centuries-old relationship between the village and Ine Bay. Start around Ineura Park, where the tourist information centre and waterfront views make a useful introduction. The boathouses are mostly private homes and working spaces, so admire them from public areas unless joining an authorised visit.

2. Take an Ine Bay sightseeing cruise

One of the best things to do in Ine is see the funaya from the water. Choose a larger Ine Bay sightseeing boat for a panoramic circuit or a small sea taxi guided by a local boat operator for a more personal perspective. A cruise reveals the waterfront-facing boat entrances that are difficult to appreciate from the road. Check operating conditions locally, as boat services depend on the weather.

3. Enjoy the view from Funaya no Sato Ine

Head to the observation area at the roadside station Funaya no Sato Ine for a sweeping view across the bay and its rows of boathouses. The elevated viewpoint is particularly useful for understanding the village's unusual coastal layout. The roadside station also offers opportunities to browse regional products and enjoy local food.

4. Discover fishing culture on a guided tour

Join a guided walking tour or a walking-and-cruising experience to learn how the funaya are used and how the community's fishing traditions developed. Some organised experiences include a permitted funaya interior visit, a short sea taxi ride or a demonstration of traditional fishing methods. Check the itinerary and reserve in advance for tours that require booking.

5. Try seafood and coastal activities

Look for restaurants serving seasonal fish from the surrounding waters, or explore sea kayaking and fishing experiences offered by local operators. Activity availability can vary with weather and season, so confirm conditions before travelling.

Nearby Attractions Around Ine Fishing Village

  • Amanohashidate: Visit the pine-covered sandbar in Miyazu, a celebrated scenic destination that pairs naturally with an Ine day trip.
  • Kasamatsu Park: Enjoy elevated views over Amanohashidate from the northern side of the bay.
  • Motoise Kono Shrine: Explore a historic shrine near the northern end of Amanohashidate.
  • Urashima Shrine: Discover a shrine in Ine associated with the Japanese legend of Urashima Taro.

Tips for Visiting Ine no Funaya

  • Allow time for both a waterfront walk and a boat trip, as the funaya look very different from the street and the bay.
  • Treat the village as a residential and working fishing community. Do not enter boathouses, private docks or homes without permission.
  • If arriving by public transport, plan the return bus from Ine to Amanohashidate before starting your walk, as services are relatively infrequent.
  • For a funaya interior visit, choose an organised tour or an accommodation that explicitly permits access rather than assuming buildings are open to visitors.
  • Check cruise operation on the day, particularly when winds or rough seas may affect departures.
