What to expect
During the Green Season, Hakuba Happo-One becomes a premier alpine trekking destination.
The Happo Alpen Line lifts visitors from the base (760m) to Happo-ike Sanso (1,830m) in 25 minutes. The Kurobishi Line provides an alternative scenic access point.
From the top station, a trail leads to Happo Pond (2,060m), a celebrated "mirror lake" reflecting the Hakuba Sanzan peaks. The route showcases 347 alpine plant species and offers two paths: a gentle wooden boardwalk (south course, ~70 min) and a rocky mountain trail (north course, ~50 min).
For rest and panoramic views, Usagidaira Terrace (1,400m) and Happo-ike Sanso offer refreshments and facilities. Afterward, hikers can relax at Hakuba Happo Onsen near the base—Japan's only highly alkaline natural hydrogen hot spring.
