Begin your tour at Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan’s most iconic castles. Despite ongoing restoration after the 2016 earthquake, its black-and-white walls and impressive stone base remain a powerful symbol of the city. Walk the grounds to learn about samurai history and enjoy views of downtown Kumamoto.
Next, visit Sakuranobaba Josaien, a lively castle town–style complex with shops, restaurants, and cultural exhibits. Enjoy local snacks, try on samurai armor, or relax with green tea.
Sample Kumamoto’s specialties such as basashi, rich tonkotsu-style ramen, or spicy karashi renkon.
End your journey at Suizenji Jojuen, a serene Edo-period garden featuring a miniature Mount Fuji, a tranquil pond, and a traditional teahouse—perfect for photos and relaxation.
