What to expect
Forest Elf Terrace Furano’s Ningle Terrace is a forest handicraft experience workshop built inspired by a character from Japanese author Satoshi Kuramoto’s novel (to be precise, a small elf about 15cm tall living in a large forest). Each small wooden house here is a small shop, selling unique small goods, mostly handmade, such as glass crafts, paper crafts, as well as hand paintings, and crafts made from dried lavender flowers from Furano. Each small shop is small and exquisite, and all items are only sold here and nowhere else.
Shikisai no Oka (Shikisai Hill) Shikisai no Oka boasts a vast and beautiful flower field covering 15 hectares, like a seven-color rainbow carpet. The types of flowers vary with the seasons. From late May to late October each year, more than 30 kinds of flowers, including tulips, lavender, and sunflowers, bloom competitively on the rolling hills. From a distance, they are colorful, like a painter’s palette. There are also giant scarecrows standing in the flower fields, which are very cute.
Shirahige Waterfall (White Beard Waterfall) Named “Shirahige Waterfall” because the water cascades down from the crevices of the rocks like a white beard. The water gushing from underground hits the rocks, creating splashes with a blue glow. Here, the mountains are green and the water is clear in summer, and it is covered with white snow in winter, allowing visitors to enjoy the pleasure brought by the stark contrast between the two seasons.
Blue Pond Illumination The Shirogane Blue Pond attracts people year-round with its dreamy “azure water + larch trees” due to the refraction of light by minerals in the water. In winter, the lake freezes and is covered with snow, making it difficult to see the typical blue lake surface during the day. However, the night illumination show blends the ice, water, withered trees, and night sky into another dreamy scene, beautiful like a fairy tale.
Unique “Lonely” Christmas Tree This “Lonely Christmas Tree” (夕入入一の木) located in Biei Town is one of Hokkaido’s most popular internet-famous photo spots. It is a spruce tree standing alone in a field, named for its resemblance to a Christmas tree.

I thought this trip was a lot of fun. The tour guide was also very nice and often chatted with us in a humorous way. They were super friendly.
I joined a day trip from Sapporo this time, and every spot on the route was very photogenic, especially the ice-blue water of Shirahige Falls and the illuminated Blue Pond in the evening, which were unbelievably dreamy haha :) The departure time was also super friendly, with a meeting time of 11 o'clock, so you don't have to wake up early to rush the itinerary. It's very relaxing to start after a good night's sleep. A special thanks to our guide Lucy, who provided very detailed explanations along the way, taking care of everything from the background of the attractions to recommending photo angles. She was also very kind, which added a lot to the overall experience. If you want to easily check off the winter scenery of Asahikawa and Biei, this route is worth recommending~

Being able to sleep during the journey was a huge help. It was a bit disappointing that there was no illumination during certain seasons, and the Blue Pond is apparently only blue in the summer, so I wondered about the illuminated Blue Pond. However, overall, I was very satisfied with the tour. The guide was also kind and entertaining, so I would definitely like to use this service again!

The tour guide and driver were both excellent. However, the quality of fellow travelers can be a hit or miss. Two Thai women kept talking loudly while the guide was explaining the day's itinerary, making it impossible to hear what the guide was saying. It really detracted from the experience. If you can't be considerate, you shouldn't travel! Unfortunately, there were no other seats available to move to. Sigh.
