Dolphin Watching in Kumamoto

Our boat's captain, with blond strands in his hair, is very good at his job. He tried to explain to me some facts about the dolphins with his translator. He is always on the lookout for a better positioning of our boat that we are almost always in the middle of the dolphins. Other boats were a bit at the edge.

The activity was very satisfactory, except for the distance. It took 2 hours and 20 minutes from the accommodation to the location by Rent a Car, so the drive was very tiring. I took a boat for 20 minutes to see the dolphins, and the moment I saw the dolphin pod, the fatigue of driving disappeared. There were places where the same dolphin watching activity was twice as expensive, and that place looked good because the boat was bigger, but the time to move by boat was longer, and because the boat was small, there were not many users, so it was better for watching dolphins.

Check-in and ticket collection were clear and simple. The boat was clean, and we had plenty of time, almost an hour, to watch the dolphins.

Excellent value for money! Perhaps because the small boat is more agile, coupled with the captain's keen sense, we found a pod of dolphins within 20 minutes of setting sail. Since the boat is smaller and closer to the water, we could observe the dolphins up close. Although I didn't see hundreds of dolphins, watching 7-8 dolphins swim and jump right in front of us was already breathtaking. Please note that the ticket collection point and the boarding point are a few minutes' drive apart. The lady who issued the tickets was very friendly and used a translation device to communicate. My wife felt a bit seasick but still happily watched the dolphins for an hour. However, she mentioned it would be safer if the boat operator could provide sick bags on board. This is a 100% recommended activity.

The meeting point was clear, and we saw lots of dolphins. It was a super positive experience, the price was reasonable, and even though the waves were big, we felt safe wearing life jackets.

It wasn't a big boat, but a fishing boat? A small motorboat? I took that. The price was affordable, and it was great because we could get closer to the dolphins. An hour was enough for the tour!

We finally saw the dolphins, which my child was most excited about! It was super fun! Just a heads-up, the ticket collection point and the boarding point are different, so pay a little attention to that. There will be detailed instructions when you pick up your tickets. I highly recommend everyone plan this activity.
