This advanced sake experience is for travelers who want to understand sake more deeply, not just taste it.
The experience starts with a short introduction to sake basics, including how sake is made and how to read bottles and labels. You will then enjoy a guided tasting of 10 carefully selected sake, chosen to show how different brewing methods affect flavor, aroma, and texture. The tasting includes modern styles, traditional or ancient methods, natural sake, and sake matured with local wood. Rather than simply choosing a favorite, you’ll learn why sake tastes the way it does and how to evaluate sake more confidently in Japan.

I would highly recommend this class. It is very interesting without being boring, easy to follow, and will help you a lot when choosing your next sake. The instructor was very easy to understand, and the slides they used during the class were very well set out. You taste up to 10 sakes ranging in various styles, and they are good pours! We also loved that we could purchase our favourite sakes at the end.
We had a great experience learning more about the Nihonshu (a term we learned) process. I had not known much about sake before, but now feel much more comfortable being able to pick out a bottle and describe differences between various styles. Kiyomi was an excellent teacher and we hope to have another experience here again next time we are in Kyoto.
