Fantastic 5.0
I stayed in a Superior Twin Room for 3 nights, using this accommodation as my base camp to visit Kamikochi and the Alpine Route. To get straight to the point, this was the most satisfying hotel I've ever used during my travels in Japan. Its excellent features included its close proximity to the station (within a 5-minute walk), spacious facilities, welcome drinks, morning coffee, and even a late-night snack service. If I visit Matsumoto again, I plan to stay here again.

Fantastic 5.0
This is a good hotel in Matsumoto. Its location isn't too close to Matsumoto Station, but it's not too far either, about 900 meters or a 5-10 minute walk. The amenities are quite complete. The room is spacious and clean enough. There are many restaurants with various options around the hotel.

Fantastic 5.0
This hotel has a unique and memorable concept. Upon arrival, staff immediately helped clean our luggage wheels before we brought them in—a small touch that reflects a high level of attention to cleanliness. All hotel floors are tatami, so guests must leave their shoes in lockers and walk barefoot—slippers are available at the reception if needed. The atmosphere truly feels like a traditional Japanese ryokan. The room was compact and efficient, with a 140cm bed that felt a bit small for two people. The onsen was a definite plus—an open-air onsen was available, although the water temperature wasn't very hot. The most surprising aspect was the complimentary amenities: ice cream, free ramen every night at 9:30 PM, and hot and cold beverages available anytime. These are added values rarely found in other hotels.

Fantastic 5.0
Clean room and super great location just next to JR Matsumoto station & across Matsumoto bus terminal. The breakfast is also delicious! But they won't store your luggage after check out, so you need to pay extra for lockers.

Great 4.0
This location is actually a bit further from Matsumoto Station, about a ten-minute walk. If you want to be closer to the train and bus stations, I recommend the East Exit branch, which is cheaper and much closer. This building is older, and the smoke smell is quite strong.

More about Matsumoto hotels

Staying in Matsumoto: who pays what

Staying in Matsumoto ranges from budget-friendly rooms to noticeably pricier options, with the top end averaging just over three times the most affordable tier — so there’s a clear spread to match different budgets. Economy properties offer the best value and are a sensible balance for travellers who want to keep costs low without sacrificing basic comfort.

How hotel classes compare and where to upgrade matters

Economy sits at the bottom and represents the most wallet-friendly choice; it’s where the best value lives. The biggest step up comes when you move from economy to standard, a meaningful increase in price that signals a jump in comfort and conveniences suitable for travellers wanting more room or a steadier night’s rest. Premium follows, costing more than standard and appealing to those who prioritise extra space or a higher-end feel. Think of the decision to move from economy into standard as the main budget inflection point that determines whether you stay practical or upgrade for added comfort.

When travellers from 香港 typically book

The cheapest month for rooms is 02, while the priciest month is 08, so budget-led trips fit best in 02 when rates are notably lower than in 08. Rooms here are usually booked around six weeks ahead (typical booking lead time is about 41 days), so if you want to secure specific dates — especially in the priciest month — aim to book earlier rather than at the last minute.
