Booking tickets in advance is always a great idea to avoid lines at the ticket office and support the local community. The temple complex is truly unique.

This was an amazing tour and a great value for the money. Naomi was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of great information along the way. She also seamlessly delivered all information in English and Spanish as well as talked to the driver in Japanese. The driver Kitagawa did a great job making sure everyone got where they needed to go safe and sound. I would recommend this tour!

The guide was very friendly, and we really enjoyed the tour, especially because it's far from Tokyo.

The guide gave clear instructions and recommended an authentic family restaurant for lunch, with an udon recipe passed down between generations of owners.

Explore the Yomeimon Gate

The Yomeimon Gate is a main attraction at Toshogu Shrine, famous for its countless wood carvings and shiny gold leaf decorations. Take some time to look closely at the amazing designs and many figures on this beautiful gate. It's often seen as one of the most beautiful gates in Japan.

See the Famous Three Wise Monkeys

One of the coolest things to see at Nikko Toshogu Shrine is the carving of the Three Wise Monkeys. One monkey is covering its eyes, another its ears, and the last one is covering its mouth. The three monkeys are carved on the Sacred Stable and are admired by visitors from all over the world.

Check out the Five-Story Pagoda

The majestic Five-Story Pagoda at the entrance of Toshogu Shrine is a striking architectural beauty you won't want to miss. Each level of the pagoda represents one of the five elements of Buddhist cosmology: earth, water, fire, wind, and sky. The bright red color and detailed construction make this pagoda stand out.

Listen to the Crying Dragon

Check out the Crying Dragon (Nakiryu) ceiling painting in Honjido Hall at the Toshogu Shrine. If you clap your hands under the painting, you'll hear a special echo that sounds like the dragon is crying.
